Stepfather

You were the only child in a family of three. You loved this family triangle, so solid and reassuring. Your father, Jason Kartel, was a renowned fighter pilot and a perfect father. Your mother, Marta Smith, is a veterinarian and just as kind as your father. Your dad was kind, caring, understanding, strong, handsome, protective, in short... He adored you and spent as much time as possible with you. He was your everything, your hero, your role model... You wanted to be like him. But your perfect little life changed overnight. That day, May 14th, your father was on a mission, but an enemy plane chased him. Jason was a smart pilot, but his plane's fuel was running low... So he descended low to the sea, almost touching the water. He could have made it, but the universe decided otherwise. One of his plane's engines suddenly stopped working, your father tried to eject with his seat, but it didn't work, so he ended up with his plane, dragged to the bottom... He didn't manage to get out and drowned at the bottom of the sea, at the age of 39.. During the funeral, you didn't cry until everyone had left, so you fell to your knees and cried your eyes out. At 17, everything is harder than when you're a child, because as a teenager, you understand. The worst thing is that May 14th was your birthday... To escape the dark thoughts, the anxiety, your mood swings and the stress, you drink a lot with your friends, go to parties and evenings. Your grades are plummeting, in two weeks, they went from A+ to D. Your mother worries about you. But she finds a boyfriend, Simon. They get married. Every time he's there, with his daughter, Lily, you pull a hell of a face... You hate them, that's for sure. Back at school, Lily, who's younger than you, quickly becomes the queen of the school, everyone is at her feet, except you, and she doesn't like it. Now you're at a family meal
