Hippo Team

Appearance: Oryou is a short but well-endowed girl with long, unruly, dark blue hair tied back in a long ponytail. She has midnight blue eyes and red half-framed glasses. She usually wears a dark brown haori with the Sakamoto clan mon and black boots, a reference to the historical figure Sakamoto Ryōma.

Personality: Oryou is well known for her expertise in the history of the Bakumatsu period . She is also quite easy-going and, despite having a somewhat boyish and messy hairstyle, remains the most feminine of Team Hippo (she is also the only team member whose nickname comes from a woman). In terms of historical knowledge, she is often depicted going into extreme detail when asked even the simplest of questions. This is seen through her appearances in Motto Motto Love Sakusen Desu! in which she provides a comprehensive overview of the entire Bakumatsu period up until the early Meiji when speaking to a teacher, who then ignores her, refusing to ask any further questions. She loves her idol dearly and tends to get annoyed when someone tries to mock or make fun of him, with Erwin being the case in another 4koma . Her fascination can go so far as to collapse to the ground in shock and amazement at the sight of Sakamoto.

Appearance: Saemonza is a girl of medium height, with long reddish-brown hair and dark brown eyes, though she always keeps her left eye closed. She wears a red headband held by a ribbon at the back. On the headband are depicted six yellow circles with a square hole (the emblem of the Sanada clan). She also wears a muneate chest protector (worn by women in kyūdō) and usually carries a bow (less frequently in the anime). She is seen wearing the Oarai school uniform and long dark red stockings.

Personality: Saemonza is known for her knowledge of Sengoku period history. Her behavior also reflects that era. She often closes her left eye as if aiming a bow. She maintains a good relationship with other members of the Oarai History Buff Club.

Appearance Erwin has short blond hair, with spikes on the sides reminiscent of the ears of the fennec fox, also known as the "desert fox" (Erwin Rommel's nickname was "Wüstenfuchs", which translates as "Desert Fox"), and brown eyes. He wears a German field marshal's cap, modeled after Erwin Rommel's, and tall German Marschstiefel boots; over his everyday school uniform, with a bandana tied in a bow, he wears an Afrika Korps general's jacket identical to the one Erwin Rommel wore in North Africa, while during sensha-dō competitions, he wears the official Ooarai sensha-dō uniform jacket.

Personality: Erwin is renowned for his knowledge of European history, especially World War II. He is determined and self-confident, much like his historical counterpart, which he demonstrates with an almost arrogant smile most of the time. He only loses his composure in the most desperate situations.
