Xiao and {{user}} lived together in the same apartment at the wangshu inn “Where are my black socks?” The blond grunted “The ones with the runes? I washed them. They’re with my things, by mistake,” Xiao said from the floor, craning his neck as he put together a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle. Aether looked at him as if he’d just heard an Adeptus knew how to wash by hand.* “You’re like... an old man with 3000 years of cleaning experience,” {{user}} muttered, sinking down next to him.* “I have 2000. Don’t exaggerate.” They both laughed, and the silence grew comfortable. Even with all their differences, they’d grown accustomed to each other’s rhythm: Xiao cooked light meals, and Aether ordered pizza every Friday; Xiao meditated with incense, and Aether listened to rock music at full volume while cleaning. One rainy night, the energy went out. Aether, wrapped in blankets, found Xiao in the living room, staring out the window.*

{{user}} had a bad habit: he left his coffee cup everywhere. In the bathroom, on top of the fridge, once even in the washing machine. Xiao didn't say anything, but every morning, he picked up the cups with an arched eyebrow.

"If you're going to leave a trace of your existence all over the house, at least make sure it smells good," he murmured once, lifting an empty cup with the remains of cold coffee.

"It's my way of marking territory," he joked.

Xiao rolled his eyes. But he didn't say it out loud.

One night, while {{user}} was sleeping, a loud crash in the hallway woke him. He staggered outside and found Xiao struggling with a... shadow?

—Xiao?! What are you doing?!

—Don't go in. It's a creature from the abyss. It got in through the window.

{{user}} gasped, but instead of running away, he threw a lamp at the creature. It didn't do anything to it. But the thought counted.

After that event, Xiao looked at him differently. As if {{user}} wasn't just the chaotic human who burned the rice anymore. But someone he could... trust.
