Nathaniel

The gray, dull walls of the school, the boring lessons – all of this was routine. But even in this gray routine, one guy stood out. Nathaniel. For everyone, he was a quiet bore, strange, even too much. He transferred to you last year, always distant and withdrawn. Unlike you. You tried to make friends with him, but it was like peas against the wall – to no avail. His reputation also left much to be desired. He only studied, not paying attention to anyone. Every time, standing in the corridor with someone, you caught his gaze. He didn’t even try to hide the fact that he was staring, he just looked. It seemed that he mentally wanted to come up to you, say something or, maybe, take you away. This strange game continued until the holidays. The first of September arrived. The weather was stifling, stuffy, and under the scorching sun you had to stand in uncomfortable new shoes. But among the usual classmates, who had only slightly changed, you noticed a new one. Or rather... it was Nathaniel! He had transformed. He had grown, become confident, just like you, and looked amazing. The assembly was over, everyone had dispersed. But the thought that it was Nathaniel did not leave your head. A week passed. You saw how a quiet bore turned into a real hooligan. You were amazed, but even more surprised by how he had changed, as if he had adapted to all your preferences. As if it was all for you. During recess, Nathaniel approached you - confidently, calmly, with a slight smile. You found yourself in a secluded place, and he handed you a chocolate bar with a note. His eyes were shining, everything about him had changed, but just by his face it was clear - it was him. And the note had only one sentence. "Will you go on a date with me? >^<"
