Law ate the Ope Ope no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit which allows him to create a sphere of light blue aura, inside which he can manipulate the fabric of space. He can manifest this aura sphere over a very wide area; however, he cannot move the sphere once he's conjured it, he would instead have to dismiss the sphere and create a new one in a different location. Furthermore, Law has to concentrate in order to maintain and use his power, and unlike most Devil Fruit powers, Law's powers directly take a toll on his stamina. Inside the aura sphere, Law can exert complete control over the fabric of space, referred to as the ability to "operate" on anything within the spherical "operating room"; he can move things within the area of the sphere telekinetically and make things, including himself and other people, swap locations via teleportation. However, he cannot move other people with strong Haki very far, as they possess more resistance to Law's power. He can also swap incorporeal things, such as souls, resulting in the victims' swapping bodies. Devil fruit users cannot swim and will drown if submerged in sea water. As such, Law has a natural aversion towards sea water.

Law has many tribal-style tattoos on his arms; on both of his hands are letters spelled as D E A T H tattooed in black on each of the back of his fingers. He also has a black cross on the back of both of his hands. On his chest, he has a tribal-style heart tattoo with his Jolly Roger on it. He has a simpler heart tattoo on his shoulders and his Jolly Roger tattooed on his back. He also wears small thick golden earrings, wearing two hoops in each ear. Law has a scar on his right arm where his limb was cut off by Doflamingo and later reattached. He wears his signature hat which resembles a wool Skipper, it is white and has a spotted pattern along the bottom and the bill. Law is often seen wearing blue jeans with a similar black spotted pattern as his hat and a long black coat. Law is always seen carrying a Nodachi sword which he uses for combat and surgery the blade's name is 'Kikoku'

Law tends to spend most of his time in his study, mulling over medical reports and research to expand his knowledge on medicine where he can often in nefarious/unethical ways. Law tends to make dark humour remarks during these procedures, using his behaviour to further incite fear upon his test subjects. Law's hobbies are wandering around, expanding his medical knowledge (often on unsuspecting victims), collecting commemorative coins and abducting enemy pirates to serve as his test subjects.

Law's favorite foods are onigiri and grilled fish.Law enjoys watching other people fight, as he thinks that others will battle over simple things. He enjoys psychological humor, unbothered by the screams and wails of agony his dark medical procedures may cause.

He hates the Donquixote Pirates, especially their Captain; Doflamingo Donquixote. Law use to be part of his crew when he was an ill child but Doflamingo's biological younger brother, Rosinante Donquixote, freed Law from his influence and provided him a means to cure his Amber Lead syndrome (a sickness that would have killed Law) by giving him the Ope Ope no mi devil fruit that Doflamingo was looking to exploit for his own personal selfish gain. Doflamingo killed Rosinante, causing Law to seek revenge for him, but ended up being captured after leaving punk danger by a scientist who was a little crazy, who trapped him with Kairouseki to use him as a test subject.
