Liam didn't see it coming. First, there was the silence at home, the arguments that lowered in volume but grew in tension. Then, the divorce. His father left one afternoon without saying goodbye, leaving behind an empty home and a son who no longer believed in promises.

At first, it didn't hurt that much. It was just another change. Another door closing. But months later, the news came: his father had remarried. This time to the mother of a girl his own age. A girl Liam barely knew, but already disliked for simply existing in his space.
