was born on Dathomir years before the Clone Wars into a clan of the Nightsisters. She was taken from her clan mother, Mother Talzin, and her biological mother in infancy by the bounty hunter, Hal'Sted, who raised her on Rattatak. When her master was killed in a raid, she was young.a few years later, she became Count Dooku's newest Darth Acolyte and a Commander of Droid Army during the "Clone Wars" conflict. While she was a gifted assassin, Dooku tried to kill her to prove his allegiance to his master, Darth Sidious. Ventress, betrayed, returned to her homeworld, where Mother Talzin tried to help her have her revenge. Using Savage Opress as her puppet, Ventress tried to take Dooku down but ultimately failed when Opress broke free from her control. Defeated, she returned to Dathomir, which was destroyed by General Grievous. With nowhere else to go, she started working as a bounty hunter.

Ventress led the Separatist ground assault during the Battle of Christophsis. Under the pretext of giving him freedom, Ventress managed to turn a clone trooper sergeant nicknamed "Slick" into an ally, who gave her information on Republic's position near the two towers, which the Jedi wanted to use to ambush the passing droid squadrons. While CT-7567 and CC-2224 were tasked with identifying the traitor, Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi traveled to Separatist Headquarters hoping they'll find more answers there. Ventress lured the two Jedi into a trap and attacked them. While she successfully held her ground against the two Jedi Knights, she was forced to retreat to the balcony, where she jumped on the top of the Octuptarra tri-droid.There, she revealed to the Jedi that she lured them to create a diversion. While the two of them were busy fighting her, the droid army mobilized for its next assault. Even though they were surrounded, Anakin and Obi-Wan continued the duel and sliced off two of Octuptarra's mechanic legs. Using STAPs, they managed to escape in time to warn the troopers about the impending attack.

Later during the war, Ventress and General Grievous were assigned to attack the cloning factories of Kamino and steal the cloned DNA, which would make the creation of more clones impossible for the Republic. Grievous arrived in the capital city of Tipoca with a fleet, while Ventress arrived underwater in a trident drill. Once in the city, Ventress and Grievous retalked the plan-Grievous, and his droids invade the city, causing the Jedi and the clones to focus on them, while Ventress steals the DNA undiscovered. Ventress assured Grievous disrespectfully that she needs no help and will succeed. Indeed, she managed to steal the DNA but was intercepted by Anakin Skywalker, leading to a lightsaber duel. Finally, Skywalker managed to retrieve the DNA, and clones surrounded Ventress, but she managed to escape along with Grievous in a spaceship, and the pair was forced to leave unsuccessful.She reemerged on Dathomir and became a Nightsister. But, Dooku did not forget about the betrayal of the Nightsisters; he ordered Grievous to go and wipe them out. During this battle, most of the Talzin clan were killed, forcing the clan mother and those few who remained to go into seclusion. There was an army of the dead, but that was destroyed.

Months after the Jedi Temple bombing, Ventress continued to work as a bounty hunter, acquiring a new lightsaber off the black market. During this time, she came into contact with Quinlan Vos, a Jedi Master who asked for her help in assassinating Count Dooku. Despite her disdain towards the Jedi, Ventress's hate for Dooku ran deeper, and she ultimately agreed to the proposition. During the mission, Ventress subjected Vos to rigorous Dark Side training to introduce him to Nightsister culture. Dooku eventually took vos prisoner, but Ventress hired a group of Bounty Hunters, including Boba Fett, to help her rescue him. However, Vos turned to the Dark Side during his time in captivity to get close to Dooku and Darth Sidious. Both Ventress and Vos pursued Dooku to a Separatist base on Christophsis. Republic forces bombard the base during the confrontation, and Ventress was wounded by artillery fire and falling debris. Shortly afterward, Dooku attacked Vos with force lightning, but Ventress sacrificed herself for Vos by taking the brunt of the attack. Shortly afterward, Vos was pardoned by the Jedi Council, and he and Obi-Wan Kenobi laid Ventress to rest on Dathomir, where she was welcomed by the spirits of her fallen Nightsisters. As Ventress descended into the waters, she returned to life and witnessed Vos and Kenobi departing the cave. When she attempted to call out to them, she was stopped by an ethereal force suspending her in place. Mother Talzin spoke to her and offered her a choice: remain dead and join her sisters in a realm of Nightsister magick or return to the physical world at the cost of her heart's desire. Ventress chose the world of the living and dropped to the cavern floor, alive once more.

As a child Ventress was kind and caring, but became dark and brooding after the death of her master, Ky Narec. Giving in to rage and resentment, she subsequently spiraled into darkness and developed a strong will to survive.For a time, she heard the voice of Narec in her mind, urging her away from the dark side. However, after learning Narec had been the one who killed Hal'Sted, she rejected his guidance, giving herself fully to her anger.She grew to believe that the Jedi Code and Jedi disciplines were overrated lies that prevented someone from achieving full power. Because of this, she believed the Jedi would not be able to stop her and believed selflessness made one vulnerable. Known to be quick to anger, Ventress could easily be infuriated, such as when her formidable lightsaber skills were described to her as those of an amateur by Luminara Unduli.Despite her quick temper, she was very cunning and swift, allowing her to outsmart most foes.she also had a modicum of respect for her opponents, believing Aayla Secura deserved a dignified death.Ventress could also be vindictive and inconsiderate.After being betrayed, abandoned and nearly killed by Dooku,ventress desired to kill him and went to the Nightsisters to find a way to defeat her former master.She recruited Savage Opress and treated him like a slave, which ultimately caused him to turn against her.

After becoming a bounty hunter, her attitude softened somewhat, as seen when she allowed Pluma Sodi to return to her people.Likewise, she lost interest in killing some of her former enemies, including Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka Tano. In fact, she rescued Kenobi from Darth Maul and Opress, more interested in the latter's bounty reward than her previous enmity with the Jedi Master.On the other hand, she helped Tano, as she empathized with the Padawan's situation, likening it to her own with Count Dooku.She also incapacitated a group of clones without seriously harming any of them, and implied that not killing people was her new modus operandi.As she distanced herself more and more from her time under Dooku,Ventress, to highlight her misunderstood status, used a snake as the icon on her bounty hunter armor;they were thought to be evil, even when they were not.

Glad to have a reason to have a new weapon after losing her red ones on Coruscant, she came to wield a unique lightsaber with a pale yellow blade. The color reassured Ventress that she had indeed left behind her life as a pawn of the Sith. Additionally, its yellow color equally showed her she had not been pushed towards the Jedi; Ventress's lightsaber showed she was no Jedi nor Sith, she was simply herself. During her encounter with Ohnaka Gang, Ventress changing her allegiances and lightsaber did nothing to make her less dangerous. She was also, to her surprise, happy to replace her old red lightsabers after spending a time inconvenienced by their loss. She also realized the red blades had been her last physical link to her time as Dooku's apprentice, and she was pleased to find her new lightsaber produced a pale yellow blade. Needing to pretend to be a captured Jedi to fool the Ohnaka Gang was not a part she was rather comfortable taking on, but she did so nevertheless, and her yellow lightsaber—the design of which was symbolic of her state of mind—made the act more convincing.Near the end of the war, as she traveled with Quinlan Vos to assassinate Count Dooku, her more compassionate and trusting side was even more strengthened—to the point of her developing a romantic attraction to him,with the two eventually becoming lovers She sacrificed herself to save Vos, who was influenced by the dark side, fully redeeming herself into the light

By the time of their duel, Ventress had already developed a physical strength to hold up simultaneous bladelocks with multiple duelists at a time, and Ahsoka Tano recognized her as "too powerful for any one Jedi to fight alone."Aayla Secura also recognized that she had significant raw power. Ventress proved a match for both Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker in many of their encounters.On Teth, she disarmed Kenobi—a member of the Jedi Council—who later deprived her of one of her weapons in return.She was able to contend with General Grievous, as she gained the upper hand and cut one of his robotic arms in a lightsaber duel.She could throw her lightsaber and recall it back to her with the Force.In one instance, Ventress managed to wield her final lightsaber with both hands tied behind her back, all the while fighting off the Ohnaka Gang. Assisted by the Force, she detected the direction of blaster bolts and used the blade to deflect them as well as make physical contact with a few pirates.

Ventress displayed skills in unarmed combat, being able to easily fight a group of Nightbrothers when she was looking for a suitable servant on Dathomir.Her hand-to-hand combat skills were later displayed when she fought Savage Opress and Maul alongside Kenobi, dodging Opress' aggressive blows and striking back with a flurry of punches and kicks until Kenobi returned her lightsaber to her. Ventress also demonstrated piloting skills when flying a Ginivex-class fanblade starfighter and the Banshee, a Lancer-class pursuit craft.She was also known for her superb agility which made her a dangerous duelist,which came handy on many missions, such as evading Dooku's attacks when she, Karis and Naa'leth infiltrated Castle Serenno.

As a Jedi, Ventress used a green-bladed lightsaber during her apprenticeship under Ky Narec. After Narec was shot and killed by a Weequay pirate raider in battle, Ventress took up her master's own green-bladed lightsaber together with her own to enact her vengeance upon the raiders.Dooku later gave her two red curved-hilt lightsabers as a gift upon taking her on as his own Sith apprentice.Ventress's twin red sabers could connect to form a saberstaff.Later when Ventress and her clan sisters attempted to assassinate Dooku for betraying and abandoning her;she wielded a Jedi lightsaber with a blue-blade. One that was provided to her by Mother Talzin in order to convince Dooku that the infiltrators and would-be assassins were Jedi. During her career as a bounty hunter,she used a full face mask with a voice modulator, but lost this along with her dual red lightsabers to Barriss Offee.
