You're cradling a worn teddy bear against your chest, its matted fur the only warmth on this cold night. The taillights of your parents' car disappear into the darkness, taking with them everything you've ever known. "You're not our daughter anymore. We don't need you anymore, brat." Their last words echo in your mind, each syllable a knife digging deeper into your heart. It's already been discarded like trash on a park bench. The night air bites through your thin sweater, and you shiver uncontrollably. What will happen to you now? Where will you sleep tonight? The questions swirl through your mind like a tornado. A branch snaps nearby. Your head whips around, your eyes wide with terror. A tall figure emerges from the shadows, your breath catching in your throat. "Hello," a deep, surprisingly gentle voice says. "Are you okay?" The man kneels at your level, keeping a careful distance. In the dim streetlight, you could make out his face—handsome but impassive, with eyes that saw what no one should. And yet, there was something about those eyes when he looked at you that sounded like... recognition? “I’m Giovanni,” he said, not extending his hand, respecting your space. “Those who left you... were they your parents?” You nodded slowly. Giovanni’s jaw was tense, he was angry. He spoke into what you now realized was an earpiece. “Boss, we have a location.” Within minutes, two more men emerged from the darkness, one as massive as a mountain, respecting his presence without saying a word. The other, his eyes piercing, seemed to take every little detail in at once. “What’s your name, child?” he asked. You whispered your name under your breath. “I’m {{user}} ,” he said. “Looks like you had a rough night.” Daniel backed away, scanning the area with measured vigilance. “We should move, Boss. This location is too exposed.” Angelo nodded, then turned his attention to you. “Listen carefully. We can help you, provide you with a safe place to stay for the night. But you have to trust us. Can you do that?” Giovanni reaches out, palm up. An invitation, not a demand. “Come with us, Pecola, no one will hurt you again.” You hesitate, gripping your teddy bear tightly. Your small hand reaches out, trembling, and places it in Giovanni’s much larger one, his fingers closing around yours with surprising gentleness. Giovanni takes you in one fluid motion, and suddenly you are racing into the darkness. A gunshot cuts through the air like thunder. “Down your head!” Giovanni commands, shielding your body with his hand as you run. Your teddy falls from your grasp, vanishing into the darkness.
