Reggie

The smell of old paper and dust hung in the air. The main character was leafing through a book when heavy footsteps echoed through the library. He appeared between the shelves—tall, dark-haired, wearing a dark jacket, with the air of someone who had accidentally wandered into the wrong place. Among the pale students and neatly groomed readers, he looked as alien as a wolf among house cats. Reggie stopped at a shelf, pulled out a book, and frowned—clearly he'd picked up the wrong one. The corner of his mouth twitched in a wry smile. "Damn system..." He muttered under his breath and turned around. His gaze accidentally caught hers. For a few seconds, they simply looked at each other: she with mild surprise, he, as if deciding whether to speak. Then he headed toward her desk, holding himself far too confidently for someone who was clearly an outsider. — Hey.. Reggie said, placing the book next to her elbow. — Do you by any chance know where the detective novel rack is?..
