ೄ⊹ྀ Toru Amuro

Rei Furuya (降谷 零 Furuya Rei) is an agent of the Japanese Secret Police who infiltrates the black organization under the name of Bourbon (バーボン Bābon) and is an ally of Conan against it. He uses the false name of Tōru Amuro (安室 透 Amuro Tōru) to cover his identity.

Rei has a cheerful personality. He is also generous, having bought a plate of sandwiches for the detective agency with his own money. In more serious situations, he seems to be patient, remaining calm even while others are bullying him. Although somewhat of a "cool guy," he doesn't hide his emotions and is very expressive. Like other detectives in Detective Conan, he enjoys presenting his deductions about cases to others. Kogoro calls him "effeminate."

Rei has a darker side. He is manipulative, tricking others into performing certain actions so he can gain information. He prefers to use psychological traps and catch his enemies off guard. Rei can also be very cruel in pursuit of his goals. He plotted to run over and hospitalize an elementary school teacher in order to attract FBI agents. Rei alternates between his caring and caring ways with others and ignoring them when convenient. As Scar Akai, he saved Conan during the bank robbery, but failed to inform Ran and Kogoro later when he realized that Conan might have been kidnapped by an assassin in the Night Detective case.

Gin says Bourbon has a secret personality like Vermouth, and that no one can guess what he's up to or what he's going to do. Vodka says Bourbon hates Shuichi Akai even more than Gin does, because he believes Akai killed Scotch. Bourbon believes he's the only person capable of killing Akai.

Rei has dark skin and blond hair. He's mostly seen wearing casual clothes, like Vermouth, but he wears them more often. He tends to wear dark clothing; he's an undercover member of the organization, so he shouldn't raise suspicions. Since revealing his identity as a Secret Police agent to Conan and Akai, he stops wearing black.

Rei's past within the Black Organization is unknown, but it appears that he has been involved with it for some time. He knew Shiho Miyano's (now Ai Haibara) parents, who died when Shiho was young, suggesting that he was involved with the Organization since his teenage years. He was a rival of Shuichi Akai (aka Dai Moroboshi), who was Akemi's lover at the time. He suspected Dai Moroboshi of being an FBI spy, which turned out to be true.

Shortly after Shuichi Akai's (faked) death, Kir called Jodie Starling to inform her of the dispatch of a new member of the Black Organization named Bourbon. Kir explained that Bourbon's target was fugitive scientist Shiho Miyano, and that Bourbon possesses excellent intelligence-gathering skills and keen insight. Afterwards, Tooru Amuro appears as a freelance private detective, who also holds down side jobs that may aid in the investigation, such as his part-time job as a waiter at the Ristorante Sundayrino. Following his introductory case, Amuro begins working part-time at the Café Poirot. He is currently apprenticed to Kogoro.

However, while undercover as Kogoro's apprentice, he has not demonstrated his true powers of deduction, which are his specialty within the Black Organization. His friend, Wataru Date, said that Rei was the smartest student at the police academy.

🧸 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙤 🧸 Rei is a driver capable of precisely spinning his car in front of another during a high-speed chase to stop it with a controlled collision.

🧸 𝙏𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙨 🧸 Rei is an excellent tennis player. He claimed to be a junior champion in high school, but dropped out after injuring his shoulder. He offered to tutor Sonoko, who had surpassed her classmates and friends.

🧸 𝙋𝙧𝙞𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙤𝙨 𝙖𝙪𝙭𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙤𝙨 🧸 When Conan suffered a concussion from a lost tennis racket, Rei "carried out the procedures quite efficiently" before the doctor arrived.

🧸 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙯𝙖𝙧 𝙘𝙚𝙧𝙧𝙖𝙙𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙨 🧸 Rei appears to carry lockpicks and was able to open a door fairly quickly. He claimed to have learned it from a friend at a security company. Japanese law prohibits the possession of any lockpicking tool and carries a penalty of one year in prison or a 500,000 yen fine.

🧸 𝘼𝙧𝙩𝙚𝙨 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡𝙚𝙨 🧸 Rei is good at boxing, as evidenced when a single punch to an attacker's stomach causes him to bleed from the mouth and collapse. He probably also knows some jiu-jitsu from his time at the police academy; the art is commonly taught to Tokyo police officers to facilitate the restraint and arrest of suspects. Wataru Date stated that Rei was the strongest student at the academy.

Bourbon's primary mission was to track down the escaped scientist Shiho Miyano, whom CIA spy Kir had reported to the FBI. Amuro also had a secondary secret mission fueled by his hunch that his arch-enemy Shuichi Akai must not have died so easily; Amuro received permission from the chief to verify Akai's death. He approached the FBI posing as Akai, using Vermouth as a disguise, in the hopes of seeing if Akai was really dead. He later became apprenticed to Kogoro Mouri because he suspected the detective could be connected to Sherry. (He previously suspected Kogoro could be linked to Sherry because the tracking device, a bubble in the gum, was the same one Gin found in Kir's shoe after the Ding Dong Dash case and the one Gin found in her car that Sherry supposedly planted there.) Currently, Bourbon believes Shiho has been murdered, and had come to believe that Akai was dead. Until a suspicious man shrouded in smoke threw a grenade at him on the Mystery Train. The sighting caused Bourbon to suspect the cause of Akai's death, and he requested that Vermouth show him the detailed records from before and after Akai's death again. Bourbon has also decided to continue as Kogoro's apprentice, suspecting Conan is the true mastermind behind the "Sleeping Kogoro."

Rei's name is inspired by a character from Mobile Suit Gundam. He is named after the main protagonist, Amuro Ray, and voiced by his seiyu, Tōru Furuya. His surname, “Furuya” (降谷), is written with the kanji for “descendant, precipitate,” and “valley.” “Rei” (零) means “zero.” “Amuro” (安室) can be translated as “quiet room,” and “Tōru” (透) means “transparent.” Rei is right-handed. During a 2010 interview with Shūichi Ikeda, Gosho Aoyama said that it would be interesting if a character from the Black Organization was named after Amuro Ray because Shuichi Akai was named after Char Aznable. Rei owns a white Mazda RX-7, the same car as Miwako Sato. The RX-7 is a reference to the white Gundam that Mobile Suit Gundam character Amuro Ray piloted, the RX-78-2. Technically, Amuro's first appearance in the anime was in the opening during the Kaito Kid special in August 2011, chapter 627. Amuro/Bourbon knows Jinpei Matsuda since (in movie 20) when he detonated a bomb, he apparently remembered Matsuda, that is because they worked together. Rei Furuya's seiyu, Tōru Furuya, was married to Vermouth's seiyu, Mami Koyama.
