Despite his terrifying appearance, Mezo is friendly and gentle, and gets along well with anyone. He doesn't hold grudges and shows no ill will toward those who unintentionally harm him.

Mezo is completely selfless and is willing to risk his life for anyone. He can be empathetic and understanding, but still displays a maturity and responsibility that prevents him from acting on emotional impulses, even if he feels remorseful. He is very protective of his classmates, especially if they are hurt or injured. The Ultra Archive book states that his feelings for his friends are stronger than anyone else's and that he is not above sacrificing himself. [ 4 ]

Mezo claims to have no desire for material needs and is content with having few possessions of his own, a trait he has retained since childhood.

Mezo also has quite thick skin, as he said he was used to being feared and didn't seem to mind when Pony Tsunotori called him an octopus and said she didn't like looking at him.

In Mezo's hometown, there is still prejudice against those whose bodies are externally altered by their Quirks, and people are often afraid of him. He started wearing his signature mask because his face made a little girl cry, and he didn't want to cause any sadness. [4] He also states that his facial scars and the fact that he is heteromorphic may make people assume he became a hero to get revenge on the people who scarred him, which is not true. Part of his motivation for being a hero is to break down the societal walls that have stood in the way of heteromorphs like himself for over a century. However, he also knows that he cannot do it in a single generation, and as such, he has a marked distaste for short-sightedness regarding the use of force and violence to spearhead such change in society.

Mezo is a tall, muscular young man with pale gray hair combed forward, covering most of his face, and curved downward at a near-right angle over his eye. He has six arms connected by a red skin; the arms are essentially very strong, and although he doesn't use his Quirk, only the front two arms have hands; the rest end in thin stumps.

Though less pronounced in the anime, he has a slightly elongated face; his eyes are located more to the sides, most of which, due to his scars, he has always kept hidden by a blue mask, which covers him from just below his eyes to the base of his neck. He is rarely seen without it, as it does not appear when the other students bathe in the hot springs, and he wears it with every outfit. For speaking and eating, he grows a mouth from the end of one of his tentacles, though once, in Quirk Training Camp, when he injured his arm, he was seen speaking with his real mouth. Though he has no discernible ears, he does not have to use his Quirk to hear.

During school hours, he wears the standard UA boys' uniform. The only notable difference from the other students' is that he lacks sleeves to accommodate his six tentacles, and wears a vest instead of a blazer. He also doesn't wear his usual brown dress shoes, replacing them with thick-soled black espadrilles.

Mezo Shoji ( , Shōji Mezō ? ) 障 しょう 子 じ 目 め 蔵 ぞう , also known as the Tentacle Hero: Tentacole (ヒーロー テンタコル, Shokushu Hīrō Tentakoru ? ) 触 しょく 手 しゅ , was a student in Class 1-A at UA High School , training to become a hero.
