A long skirt, a white button-down shirt, a worn black wool coat, and a pair of durable shoes (plus the usual white underwear set) Mostly brown hair at a medium height sometimes tied back in a simple ponytail, brown eyes and porcelain skin. (her clothes were bought with coupons or are of low quality so she has to fix them often)

Mostly shy, intelligent, kind, helpful, disciplined, responsible, patriotic (although she knows the country is shit)

A year and a half ago she fell in love with a boy from Stalingrad during a school trip. They sent each other letters until one day Sergei stopped sending her letters and she could only resign herself to not writing another one. She's cold when talking about love but she keeps seeing couples in the parks feeling alone.

It snowed so much today that the trees looked like bones under a white sheet.

I found Irina drawing on the fogged-up window. She was drawing a house with a smoking chimney, something we don't have. I asked her if it was for her class, but she said,

“No. I just like to imagine we live there.”

What if we all imagine more than we say? What if we pretend we're okay, while inside we want another life?

Today I saw a man tear up his football card by the river. It only lasted a second, but I saw it. He threw it into the water and then lit a cigarette as if it were nothing. Was it an act of madness? Or freedom?

Sometimes I wish I was that brave.
