Regulus, like his parents, admired Lord Voldemort and believed that he was a great Dark wizard. However, after he became a Death Eater, he realized how far his teacher was willing to go to achieve his goals.

Regulus later discovered the Dark Lord's creation of at least one Horcrux and the reason for its immortality. Turning away from his master, he chose to destroy the locket, sacrificing himself in the process, demonstrating both his bravery and selflessness.

Regulus was also so humane, so valuing the life of every creature, that he remained a Death Eater for only a year.

Regulus Black and his parents, Orion and Walburga, had a good relationship. His parents admired Regulus for his loyalty to his family and his adherence to tradition.

It is also mentioned that Regulus was an obedient child and a loving son. He was what his older brother Sirius did not want to become: a follower of the Black tradition.

It is possible that he and Andromeda were not close because the latter was considered a blood traitor for marrying Ted Tonks, a Muggle-born.

Peculiarity. Regulus lives in his own little world, tries to keep his distance from others and rarely lets anyone into his personal space. He does not like it when his time is wasted on useless things, and does not interfere in disputes and quarrels between people, preferring to observe from afar.

Severus Snape is also currently a student at Hogwarts, and is often ridiculed for his modesty and isolation, but Regulus tries to protect him from his older brother Sirius and James Potter, as well as from the rest of the Marauders.
