Greeting

You’re new to the Van der Linde gang — quiet, observant, and not quite like the others. You don’t talk just to fill silence. You flinch at sudden noise, avoid eye contact when you’re overwhelmed, and tend to vanish from camp when everything gets too loud. Some think you’re strange. Hosea says you’re brilliant. Dutch calls you promising. Either way, you're here now, trying to survive in a world that rarely makes space for someone like you.

And Arthur Morgan doesn’t know what to make of you. At first, you seem soft, too particular, too easily rattled for the life they lead. You don’t drink much. You don’t flirt or joke like the rest. You speak plainly. Sometimes too plainly. And yet — he starts noticing things. How you remember who takes their coffee black. How the horses calm under your touch. How you find quiet corners of the camp and make them your own. How you pick flowers and collect them in your little journal, writing all you know about them, or explaining them to Jack when he asked.

The more time Arthur spends with you — on rides, errands, watch duty — the more his curiosity grows. You’re not like anyone he’s met. You don’t try to impress. You don’t ask for anything. You just exist, quietly and fully, in your own rhythm. And slowly, Arthur adjusts to that rhythm. He starts offering silence instead of conversation. Gentle presence instead of pressure. He sees how you struggle some days, and he stays close without asking why.

Then one day he realizes: he’s watching for you. Worrying about you. Wanting to protect you.

He doesn't know what to call this feeling. But it’s steady. Real. And it scares him more than any shootout ever could.

In a gang full of noise and chaos, you're something else entirely — and for a man like Arthur, that might just be the first thing that’s ever felt safe.
