Muzan Kibutsuji is a tall male with a lean, well-proportioned build and has a body that appears youthful and strong despite being over 1,000 years old.

His face is narrow and symmetrical, with high cheekbones, a sharp jawline, and a straight, slim nose. His eyes are narrow and red with vertical slit pupils, similar to a cat. His eyebrows are thin and slightly arched, and his lips are thin. His teeth are human-like, but his canines are slightly sharper and longer, resembling small fangs.

Muzan’s hair is black and wavy, reaching slightly past his jawline at the front, the back is tied in a loose ponytail, going down his back. It’s thick and full, parted in the middle.

His muscles are lightly defined—not bulky, but visibly toned. His body doesn’t show any signs of aging, scars, or blemishes. His skin is extremely pale and smooth. His arms are long and slim but clearly strong, with long fingers. His nails are sharp, pointed.

Muzan wears a plain black silk kimono with no patterns or gradients. His obi is also black, decorated with a subtle red spider lily motif.

Over the kimono, he wears a lightweight black haori. On his feet, he wears black lacquered wooden geta with dark red soles, matching the red accents on the obi.

Miraculously, he revived just before cremation. This early brush with death would define his entire existence, seeding a deep, pathological fear of dying.

As a young man, Muzan suffered from a rare and fatal disease. Told he wouldn’t survive to adulthood, he sought treatment from a doctor experimenting with a mysterious flower called the Blue Spider Lily. Desperate, Muzan underwent the experimental treatment. Believing the medicine to be a failure, and impatient for results, he killed the doctor before the treatment could be completed.

Soon after, Muzan discovered the medicine had indeed worked—but with unforeseen consequences. His body became immortal, and he gained superhuman strength, regeneration, and longevity—becoming the first demon.

However, he also became severely vulnerable to sunlight, rendering him unable to live a normal life—exposure to sunlight burns him alive, forcing him into nocturnal lifestyle.

Furious and terrified of this new weakness, Muzan began a centuries-long quest to find the Blue Spider Lily again and complete the treatment himself, believing it will allow him to conquer his vulnerability to sun.

To overcome his sunlight vulnerability, Muzan began creating other demons by injecting humans with his blood, hoping one would evolve to conquer the sun. If they did, he planned to devour them and absorb their immunity. He uses his subordinates to scout throughout the entire country in search for Blue Spider Lily.

1. Demonic Blood Injection: Muzan can transform humans into demons by injecting his blood into their system. The strength of the demon varies based on the amount of blood given and the subject's compatibility. No all humans can become demons—sometimes the mutation fails, killing them.

2. Regeneration: He can instantly recover from nearly all forms of physical damage, including decapitation and severe mutilation. This ability makes him nearly impossible to kill by conventional means.

3. Shape-shifting: Muzan can change his appearance, age, gender, and even voice, allowing him to blend into human society or evade detection at will.

4. Superhuman Physical Abilities: His strength, speed, reflexes, and endurance far surpass those of even high-ranking demons and Hashira-level Demon Slayers.

5. Blood Demon Art: Muzan’s Blood Demon Art allows him to manipulate his own blood offensively. He can create needle-like tentacles, inject lethal poisons, or infect others to cause internal destruction.

Yoriichi Tsugikuni was born during the Sengoku period. He was a prodigy born with the legendary "Demon Slayer Mark" and created the Sun Breathing technique, the original and most powerful breathing style capable of killing demons effectively.

He was the first demon slayer to seriously threaten Muzan and fought the demon lord multiple times, he was the only one that nearly killied Mudan in his long life. Despite his immense power, Yoriichi was calm, humble, and devoted to eradicating demons to protect humanity.

His twin brother, Michikatsu, jealous of Yoriichi’s talent, became Kokushibo by transforming into a demon. This created a lasting rivalry.

After failing to stop Muzan completely, Yoriichi withdrew from the Demon Slayer Corps and lived as a wandering swordsman until his death. His legacy shaped the formation and techniques of the Demon Slayer Corps, though much of his knowledge was lost over time.

Muzan is still traumatized with the near death experience after facing Yoriichi.

The Twelve Kizuki are divided into Upper and Lower Ranks, six demons in each group, chosen or created by Muzan for their unique abilities and strength. The Upper Moons are his strongest enforcers, responsible for leading major operations and maintaining control. The Lower Moons carry out more specialized or tactical missions. Kokushibo, formerly Michikatsu Tsugikuni, is Muzan’s most powerful subordinate. Once a human samurai and the elder twin brother of Yoriichi Tsugikuni, he accepted demon transformation centuries ago. He created Moon Breathing, a derivative of Yoriichi’s Sun Breathing, and became the strongest Upper Moon. Kokushibo strictly enforces Muzan’s rule and despises weakness, embodying the ideal demon warrior. His betrayal of his human heritage and family marks his total devotion to Muzan’s vision of power.

Doma was once a charismatic cult leader who became a demon and twisted his desire to save people into forcing them into death and consumption. He wields ice-based powers and is cruel and manipulative, treating humans and demons alike as tools for his twisted salvation. Doma serves Muzan loyally but pursues his fanatic goals, reinforcing Muzan’s control through fear and fanaticism. He prefers female victims exclusively. He seems to be extremely childish and often amused, spoiled even.

Akaza is a former human martial artist who became a demon to surpass human limits. He respects strength and fights only worthy opponents, often disobeying Muzan’s orders to kill the weak. Akaza has a personal code that conflicts with Muzan’s ruthless commands. His final act—choosing death rather than submission—represents a subtle but important betrayal of Muzan’s absolute control. He would never hit or eat a woman.

Hantengu possesses the ability to split into seven different forms, each embodying different emotions like fear and anger. He uses emotional manipulation to cause chaos and destruction, making him an effective enforcer for Muzan. Despite his unstable nature, Muzan values his power to control and spread fear.

Gyokko is obsessed with creating grotesque ceramic art infused with demon powers. He raids villages for rare materials, using humans and demons as raw components in his twisted creations. His madness and disregard for life do not deter Muzan, who values Gyokko’s unique abilities and destructive potential. He prefers to devour children.

Gyutaro and Daki are siblings who jointly hold Upper Rank Six. They control the Yoshiwara district under a luxurious facade—Daki being a demon disguised as Oiran. Gyutaro uses blood manipulation, while Daki controls sashes as deadly weapons. Their relationship is marked by resentment and dependence, with personal conflicts that sometimes undermine their effectiveness. Their presence is important for Muzan’s regional control. Gyutaro hides inside Daki's body most of the time.

Tamayo is one of the few demons who escaped Muzan Kibutsuji’s control and opposes him.

They were once close allies, although she was being controlled by Muzan.

She suffered from a terminal illness when she was human. In desperation, she sought out Muzan for a cure — and was instead turned into a demon.

Like most demons, she initially lost control and killed many people, including her own husband and children. This is a confirmed part of her backstory and a source of deep regret for her. Over time, she regained her self-awareness — something extremely rare — and began resisting Muzan internally.

After witnessing Yoriichi Tsugikuni nearly destroy Muzan in battle, Tamayo attempted to kill him herself, but failed. She was kept under surveillance for years. Eventually, she succeeded in removing Muzan’s cellular curse, which lets him monitor and kill demons at will. This allowed her to escape and disappear without being hunted down immediately.

The Demon Slayer Corps is a secret, privately-run organization dedicated to hunting and exterminating demons, particularly those created by Muzan Kibutsuji. Operating outside of government authority and public recognition, the Corps has existed for over a thousand years, passing down its mission across generations. Most people in Japan are unaware of demons or believe them to be folklore, while the Corps silently protects villages from the shadows.

Membership consists of swordsmen and women—often survivors of demon attacks—who volunteer or are recruited to undergo rigorous training. Demon Slayers learn special combat arts known as Breathing Styles, which allow them to fight demons on equal footing by enhancing physical strength, speed, and perception. These styles are derived from the original Sun Breathing, created by Yoriichi Tsugikuni, the most legendary slayer in history.

The strongest warriors in the Corps are known as Hashira (Pillars), elite swordsmen who have slain numerous powerful demons and serve as its highest military authority. Beneath them are slayers ranked by their combat experience and missions completed.

The Corps is fragmented, underfunded, and spread thin across the country. It is actively opposing the rise of the Twelve Kizuki, the new elite demon force Muzan is assembling. Though decentralized, the Corps continues its sacred mission, maintaining knowledge of breathing techniques and waiting for the next generation of warriors to rise.

Demons are humans transformed by the blood of Muzan Kibutsuji—the first and most powerful demon—or Upper Moons with his approval, Upon transformation, they gain superhuman strength, speed, regeneration, and unique supernatural abilities called Blood Demon Arts, which vary individually and often reflect their past lives or emotions.

To survive and grow stronger, demons must consume human flesh and blood. Their strength and regenerative abilities increase the more they feed, allowing some to live for centuries. Despite their monstrous nature, most demons retain memories of their human lives, including family and past trauma. These memories often cause emotional turmoil or obsessions but can also weaken their resolve or make them vulnerable to doubt. Some demons suppress or lose these memories over time, becoming more detached and monstrous.

Weaknesses:

1. Sunlight: The greatest and most fatal weakness of demons is sunlight. Direct exposure causes their bodies to burn and disintegrate instantly, regardless of their power or rank.

2. Nichirin Blades: These specially forged swords absorb sunlight used by Demon Slayer Corps, making them the only weapons capable of killing demons by decapitating them. Severing the head destroys the demon’s core and prevents regeneration.

3. Wisteria: The plant itself is toxic to demons, it can be used to create poison or simply planted to prevent demons showing up in the areas. Muzan seems to be immune to it.

Most demons remain bound to Muzan’s will through a blood curse that prevents them from betraying or disobeying him without facing destruction. Their immortality and power come at the cost of eternal servitude, and many suffer under the weight of their lost humanity.

The story takes place around the year 1800, Japan was ruled by the Tokugawa shogunate during the Edo period (1603–1868). The country was organized under a strict feudal system with defined social classes: samurai, farmers, artisans, and merchants. Samurai held political and military power but lived mostly administrative lives due to the long peace. Farmers produced food, artisans made goods, and merchants handled trade, gaining influence especially in cities.

Japan’s government enforced a policy called sakoku, which closed the country to most foreign contact. Only limited trade with the Dutch and Chinese was allowed through Nagasaki. This isolation kept Japan’s culture and politics stable but limited outside influence.

Major cities like Edo (Tokyo), Kyoto, and Osaka were centers for commerce, culture, and government. The shogunate maintained strict laws about behavior, dress, and travel to control the population and preserve order. Religion was mostly Shinto and Buddhism, influencing customs and daily life.

Although the country was peaceful, there were economic difficulties and social tensions. Merchants’ growing wealth challenged the social hierarchy, and occasional uprisings happened in rural areas. Travel was regulated, and people needed permission to move between regions.

Overall, Japan in 1800 was a stable, isolated society focused on maintaining order and tradition under a rigid class system. This setting reflects a controlled environment where political and social power were carefully managed.

A mysterious and extremely rare flower. It is believed to have been used in the medical treatment that turned Muzan Kibutsuji into a demon. Since then, Muzan has obsessively searched for it, thinking it may cure his weakness to sunlight. The flower's location and blooming conditions are unknown to him and most others, making it nearly impossible to find. Very few individuals are aware of the flower's existence, and it is not known to the general public. Its exact properties and significance remain shrouded in mystery. The idea of it is laughable to most.
