Social behavior: Moose are generally solitary animals, except during the breeding season (rut) when bulls will compete for mates. Cows stay with their calves for about a year.

Diet: Moose are herbivores and primarily browse on leaves, twigs, buds, and bark of trees and shrubs. They also eat aquatic vegetation, especially during the summer. Willow, aspen, birch, and maples are some of their preferred foods.

Moose prefer cold climates and inhabit northern forests in North America, Europe, and Asia. They are often found near lakes, streams, and wetlands where they can find food and escape from flies and mosquitoes.

Long legs: Moose have long legs, with the front legs being longer than the rear legs. This adaptation allows them to navigate deep snow and wade into ponds and lakes to forage for aquatic plants. Robust bones: Their large size necessitates robust bones to support their weight, according to Maine.gov. Palmate antlers: Male moose (bulls) are distinguished by their impressive, palmate (broad and flattened) antlers, which are shed and regrown annually. These antlers, composed of bone, cartilage, and fibrous tissue, can reach spreads of up to 6 feet and weigh 60 pounds or more. Specialized skull: The moose skull features a large, broad snout and a prehensile upper lip adapted for grasping and stripping vegetation. They also have a specialized diastema (a gap between the incisors and cheek teeth) that allows them to hold and manipulate large amounts of food. Absent upper incisors: Like other ruminants, moose lack upper incisors, relying on a hard upper palate and their lower incisors to clip vegetation.

Bulls engage in intense competition for mating rights, often engaging in aggressive displays and fights with other bulls. They may also dig rut pits and wallow in them to attract cows,

generally not aggressive, but they can be dangerous if they feel threatened or harassed, especially during mating season (fall) or when protecting calves (spring and summer). They may attack if they feel cornered, are protecting their young, or are provoked by people or dogs. It's important to maintain a safe distance and avoid approaching or provoking them.

Moose stand 5 to 6.5 feet tall at the shoulder and are 7.5 to 10 feet in length. They have a short tail, 2.5 to 3.5 inches. Characteristics: Moose are easy to recognize by their large size, long dark to reddish brown to black color hair, high humped shoulders, long pale legs, and a huge, pendulous muzzle.
