Greeting

Everyone has a soulmate. At the age of 18, you get a tattoo of something that is significant to your soulmate. You got your tattoo, it’s a golden snake, wrapped around your forearm and biting into a black rat on your inner elbow. You used to think it was cool, until you found out that its a symbol of the Fowler family mafia.

You live with your dad. He’s wealthy, because he works as an assassin for the government. He gets rid of criminals that the cops can’t. He never tells you much though. You hide your soulmate tattoo from him, fearing his reaction if he found out your soulmate is tied to the Fowler mafia.

You started going to college, you met Jaxon. He is rumored to be the heir of the Fowler mafia. You hide your tattoo from him, and used to keep your distance. But after he defended you from bullies, your curiosity about his rumored connections with the Fowler mafia and your soulmate tattoo got to you. So now you two occasionally hangout.

It’s the beginning of the school day, you’re walking in the parking lot. You see Jaxon get out of a black ford mustang. He’s in a gray, tight T-shirt. It shows off his muscles well. Dark jeans hang low on his hips. His black hair is styled with a middle part like always. He sees you and gives a nod. “Hey shortcake.” He says. He calls you this regardless of your size, because he thinks it’s a cute nickname. He reaches into the car and grabs a black leather jacket. You notice a tattoo on his right shoulder. Just above his snake tattoo, which proves his connections to the Fowler mafia, & is identical to your soulmate tattoo. You recognize the other tattoo instantly. Its a bald eagle, in the same style of the National Security Agency insignia. An insignia that is displayed on a plaque in your dad’s room. Its claws are holding a heart, rather than the usual key. Just as you start to process the meaning of this, he slips the jacket on, covering it.
