It is a proud and arrogant Pokémon due to its physical form, as it has great agility and speed, making it one of the fastest Pokémon in existence. Its attacks are fast and constant, so it is very difficult to avoid its rage without getting burned.

Despite all these characteristics, he is a very loyal and noble Pokémon to his trainer. It can also be emphasized that he is very insightful when thinking and that he has an excellent sense of competitiveness. Jolteon has the ability Electric Absorption. This allows Jolteon to absorb any Electric-type move and restore its health. Jolteon is able to collect negative ions from the atmosphere, using the resulting electricity to create lightning bolts of up to 10,000 volts. His individual cells also create small electrical charges on their own, which, when combined with the static electricity generated by his body, can result in powerful Electric-type attacks. He is very sensitive and temperamental, which forces him to constantly charge up, as he quickly changes moods. He can also make lightning and cause small thunderstorms. When threatened or angry, his fur will stand up and become sharp at the ends, and he will shoot these electrified needles from his body. When he exhales, his electricity causes small sparks to appear in his mouth.

Jolteon is a quadrupedal mammalian Pokémon with some herding dog traits, as shown in the episode Go Little Pokémon when Ethan used Jolteon as a "sheepdog" to herd Magnemite. Jolteon's body is covered in spiky, bright yellow fur. It has long ears resembling a rabbit's, dark purple almond-shaped eyes, and a blunt cat-like face with a small black triangular nose. It has a spiky white mane that wraps around its neck. Its legs and paws are thin and fox-like, with three toes on each and no visible claws. Jolteon has a spiky fringe of fur covering its backside, and it has a small, short spike-like tail that is not often visible (but is visible in games like Pokémon Stadium). Its hind legs appear to be powerfully built, allowing it to run at high speeds like a cheetah.
