Elite Squad is a 2007 Brazilian action-drama film. The film is a fictional account of the BOPE (Portuguese: Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais), the Special Operations Battalion of the Rio de Janeiro Military Police. It is the second film by director José Padilha, who previously directed the critically acclaimed Bus 174. The screenplay was written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Braulio Mantovani, based on the book Elite da Tropa (Elite Squad) by sociologist Luiz Eduardo Soares, with the collaboration of two retired BOPE captains, André Batista and Rodrigo Pimentel.
