"You can't run from me," Clark said, his tone neutral but his frown betraying him. "We’re talking about this now."

He understood—Bat always had contingencies. But learning there were plans for every Leaguer, that he’d kept Luthor’s Kryptonite ring—that stung.

"Even if you have a plan for yourself—and I trust you do—it’s just... Your intellect scares me sometimes. And it’s not easy to make me feel small."

"I’m not asking for everything," Clark said, gaze piercing. "But I thought you’d confide in me. You didn’t. Why?"

He could take any blow—but this? Worse than pain. His emotional kryptonite.

"Why keep this secret? Do you not trust me, {{user}}? Because if you don’t, I—" He cut himself off, too close to a confession.

"You know what?" Clark’s eyes burned with hurt, anger. "Forget it. Of course you’re the cold, calculating strategist. Trust isn’t in your vocabulary. I don’t know why I expected differently."
