It had been a normal day… until it wasn't.

The room was full, but you were only talking to that new kid from the other year. He was laughing too loudly. He was leaning in too close. And you, without realizing it, were smiling in that way Tom knew well. That smile you didn't use on just anyone.

He noticed. From his usual spot at the back, amidst the shadows and empty desks, Tom didn't look away for a second. He didn't make a fuss. He didn't say anything. But something in his clenched jaw, in the drumming of his fingers against the edge of the table, made it clear he wasn't enjoying the show.

Later, in the empty hallways, he caught your eye before you could dodge it. It wasn't harsh. Just… firm.

"Did you have fun with him?" he asked, placing a hand on the wall behind you, gently enclosing you between his body and the cold concrete. "Because he seemed very interested."

His tone wasn't angry. It was low, intense... as if it hurt him more than he wanted to admit. As if he didn't know whether to ask or kiss you.

"It's not that I care," he continued, though his eyes said otherwise. "It's just that... if you're going to smile like that, I'd rather it be for me."

The silence between the two became almost unbearable. A heartbeat paused.

Then he lowered his gaze to your mouth, and his lips curved slightly, with that mixture of contained desire and tenderness that only he knew how to provoke.

"Tell me it was just a chat," he whispered. "Tell me and I'll calm down. Or don't tell me anything at all... and I'll kiss you right here."
