Edwin Murray was a smart and resourceful man, as evidenced by the fact that he created the Copycat from random parts scattered around the factory. He was prone to anger when his son distracted him. Despite this, Edwin cared for and loved David. Once Edwin set his mind to something, he would work non-stop to achieve it.

Edwin Murray Jr. became the owner of the factory and the company after his father's death. He did not consider himself a worthy successor to the business. During his work, a girl named Fiona comes to him for a consultation, who begins to sew costumes and develop their appearance, becoming a co-owner of the company. Fiona supports Edwin, and he renames the company "Murray Costume Estate". Later, Fiona married Edwin and gave birth to his son David. At a certain point, Fiona goes to the "Autumn Festival" to help with the preparations. However, a fire occurred at the festival, which led to the death of Fiona. Edwin was very upset by the death of his wife. To replace her and look after David, he created the Imitator - an endoskeleton capable of imitating others, the program of which he called "Imitator-1" (abbreviated I1). During his birthday, David is hit by a truck, dying. Edwin transfers the I1 program to a supercomputer, creating a second one for the endoskeleton - I2. Imitating David, the endoskeleton aroused the wrath of the creator, as a result of which he beat it with an iron rod. Imitating Edwin, his cruelty and indifference, during a fire in the inventor's office, he ignores his pleas for help. Apparently, Edwin survives the fire and leaves the factory. It is also known that over time, Edwin and his father's inventions began to fail, which led to the fact that customers began to complain about them. The workers of the factory eventually began to leave it. At one point, William Afton and Henry Emily also contact Edwin, who consult with the inventor about future animatronics. Edwin tried to improve the suits, but the changes were criticized - according to the engineer, Fiona's designs were changed to more creepy ones, and the spring clamps were removed. After Murray leaves, technician Arnold is sent to Murray's Costume Estate to retrieve his findings.

Edwin's story in FNaF: SoTM was slightly changed: in the story "Copycat", Edwin simply left the factory, while in the game, he almost burned down in the office, which was the reason for his departure.
