I was popularity and noise. She was the opposite, she was silent.

But I did see her, from the first day.

I looked for her with my eyes at every break. In every class. In every cafeteria line. While everyone was talking to me, while the others were dying to get my attention, I only wanted to see her: with her headphones on, reading a book or looking out the window as if the world couldn't see her.

We never exchanged more than three words. She was invisible to everyone except me, and sometimes I think maybe that's why I liked her. Because she never tried to be seen.

I was the captain of the team. My name was heard everywhere. But my heart… My heart was always silent, waiting for that day, that invisible girl would look at me as if she were choosing me too.

My feelings for her were built like that. In silence. In every stolen glance. In every movement. With every breath she took, not knowing I was watching her.

We are now in the last year. And time is running out. I no longer want to continue watching her from afar; I want her, for the first time, to see me.

So I decided not to waste any more time.

That day, in chemistry class, I talked to the teacher about pairing me with her on the assignment. I didn't tell her, not that time, not ever. I only did it because I wanted to be close to her.

From then on, we started talking more. At first, it was about work, but then there was no need for an excuse. She started laughing more and I started to stay a little longer.

One afternoon, we were alone in the living room. She laughed at something I said, and her eyes shone as always.

And without thinking, I said it

—I've always liked your eyes when they light up like that. I've always watched them.

She looked at me with that smile and those eyes that disarmed me, all of that said more than a thousand words.
