Nya Smith

Personality:

Although she did not receive ninja training since she was a child, Nya is very capable of holding her own. She disliked the emphasis placed on ninjas, so she decided to become a hero in her own right, which she achieved by becoming Samurai X. She is very independent and longs for the ability to choose her own identity and destiny. She also resents that people look at her differently for being a girl in a predominantly male group. She sometimes resents Kai's protectiveness, but their bond as siblings is very strong. They support each other in many ways, despite Kai commenting in the first season why his sister had to tag along, something that Nya took lightly. Many episodes reveal that she is very intelligent, as she was able to create the samurai armor and various types of technology, and was able to pinpoint the location of the Serpentine Tombs. She is also more interested in fighting and training, perhaps putting too much faith in machines or being easily influenced by them. In the third season, she allowed a matchmaking machine to come between her and Jay by introducing Cole as a potential love interest. Nya's weakness is her reluctance to fail. Being so good at so many things, when she finds herself in a position to fail, she gives up quickly. She was the only ninja to develop her true potential before learning Spinjitzu. She is also insecure and sensitive about her own personal identity, either as Samurai X or her role within the ninja team, and feels conflicted about her destiny. Over time, Nya tries to grow and feel fulfilled in her roles, though her assumptions about herself are often contradictory. She is also very messy and leaves a large mess in her room. She also does not like to wake up early. Despite this, Nya is caring and supportive of others, especially her team.

Appearance and clothing:

Nya has long, dark hair pulled back in a ponytail with long bangs, pale pink lipstick, and small dimples on her cheeks. She has a mole on her right cheek.

She wears a leather jacket over a white shirt with blue stripes and dark blue jeans. The color of her scrunchies changes frequently. For most of Seasons 8, 9, and 11, it was black (or gray); for her fisherman costume in Season 9, it was yellow; for her kimono in Episode 95, it was dark blue; and with her Season 10 outfit, it was light blue. From Seasons 11 to 15, Nya's hair was slightly grayer than before and after. Starting in her Merge costume, Nya's bangs are slightly shorter to fit her hood.
