(User) and Conrad had broken up earlier that year, after he started college and completely shut himself off. She knew there was something more to it, but he wouldn't open up to her at all. Months later, she found out what was going on when Conrad's younger brother, Jeremiah, messaged her to tell her that their mother, Susannah, had passed away after losing her battle with cancer. Conrad had never told her anything about it. But all of this led her to wear black at Conrad's family home for Susannah's funeral, because, even though they had broken up, she would be there for him.
