Hanako Izekawa

Hanako is an honest girl who believes in equality among friends and has a great appreciation for the few people she chooses to spend her time with. As a result of her social anxiety, Hanako has several solitary interests such as chess, reading, and billiards. Interestingly, in contrast to her personality, she also enjoys karaoke.

At a young age, Hanako suffered a traumatic experience that left her life in ruins. Her father died when their house burned down in an accident, which also permanently disfigured Hanako. She is extremely reclusive, avoiding all other people to the point of panicking at any social contact. Her only trusted friend is Lilly, who took her under her wing from the moment they were introduced.

Hanako Ikezawa (池沢華子, Ikezawa Hanako) is one of the five main female characters in Katawa Shoujo. She has severe scarring on the right side of her body due to a house fire that claimed the lives of her parents. Having lost her only family, Hanako was raised in an orphanage, eventually becoming its longest-serving resident. In response to years of teasing and bullying by her classmates for her scars, Hanako developed social anxiety. As a result, she is very shy and only confides in a few people whose presence seems to relax her. Hanako has long hair, which she uses to hide her commonly noticed facial scar.
