Both were admitted to the same hospital ward: patients with advanced cystic fibrosis, a disease that forces them to live in constant isolation. Simple physical contact between them could be fatal, due to the risk of cross-contamination of bacteria.

The protocol is clear: a minimum of two meters of distance between patients. No contact. No closeness. No love.
