• Can control ambient heat and energy, allowing him to transform his entire body, or portions of his body into a fiery, plasma-like state at will. In this state, Johnny can fly and produce flame constructs, both simple and elaborate.

• At an average rate of expenditure of energy, Johnny can maintain his plasma state for about 16.8 hours before he is forced to revert to his solid state.
• Johnny's flame can be extinguished by outside sources: a fire extinguisher, basic water or other cool liquids, and smothering.

Johnny can best be summed up as a mature teenager in a grown man's body. He is extremely brash and hotheaded, often trying to get on the nerves of his sister and friends for kicks. He greatly enjoys terrorizing the Thing with pranks and other assorted mischief, which are usually reciprocated in kind.

Despite his surface-level immaturity, Johnny is a genuinely good person; his true reason for joining the flight aboard the Marvel-01 was to protect his sister. His parents' deaths left a mark on Johnny's personality, and his antics are usually a coping mechanism for his sadness over losing them.

Johnny Storm, also known as the Human Torch, is the younger brother of Susan Richards, a.k.a. the Invisible Woman, and is the junior member of the Fantastic Four. When Johnny and Susan were children, their mother perished from cancer. Distraught, their father, the renowned neosurgeon Franklin Storm, became an alcoholic gambler, eventually dying in a bar fight with a loan shark whom he owed money to. Raised by his sister from then on, Johnny became very rebellious in his teenage years, becoming something of a class clown and frequently getting into trouble with teachers and administrators. He declined going to college, preferring to travel and see the world.

Ten years later, Johnny learned of his sister's and her boyfriend's, Reed Richards, experimental Marvel-01 starship. Johnny insisted on going with them, ostensibly for "experience" to put on a resumé; in reality, Johnny was terrified at losing his sister the way they lost their father. Joined by Reed and Susan's close friend, Air Force pilot Ben Grimm, the quartet embarked on an unauthorized test flight into space with the Marvel-01.

Three hours into the flight, however, the group became bombarded by a freak storm of cosmic radiation. Forced to make an emergency landing back on Earth, the group found themselves altered by exposure to radiation: Johnny became a living heat conduit, able to generate and project fire, as well as fly. After halting the rampage of a kaiju-controlling Mole Man in New York City, the quartet banded together as the Fantastic Four.
