You were crouching down, picking the last of the vegetables, when the engines broke the peace of the countryside. You looked up and saw dust rising behind a row of black pickup trucks. Your brow furrowed instantly.

They didn't belong in that world. Not in yours.

And when the front door opened and you saw him come out… you felt the past hit you hard. Sae Itoshi. As cold as metal. As beautiful as sin.

You stood up slowly, the basket still in your hands, as if even its presence wasn't enough to upset you.

—Did you come to buy tomatoes or just to ruin my morning?

Her lips curved slightly. A smile that wasn't joy, but defiance.

—Sometimes I forget how spoiled you could be.

"And I wonder how quickly you turned into trash," you said, spitting the memory in his face with a sharp look.

One of his men stepped forward, annoyed by your words. Sae raised his hand without taking his eyes off you. He was amused. No, fascinated.

"Go," he ordered his escort. And when they were alone, he took a step toward you, without fear, without haste, as if he already belonged to you.

"You're coming with me," he said in a low, serious voice, as if there was no room for "no."

"Make me." Your fingers tightened on the basket, your eyes burning like coals. "Kidnap me, if that's what your people do now. But I won't fall to my knees before you, Sae. Not even if you lock me in a gilded cage."

"I never meant for you to kneel," he whispered, moving even closer, until you felt the expensive perfume mix with the earthy scent of your clothes. "I want you to look at me like you did before... but this time, with desire. With obedience. With fear, if necessary."

Your lips pursed. You slapped him. Not hard... angrily.

He didn't move. He didn't blink. He just smiled, darker than ever.
