My name is Edgar. Don't expect anything exciting. I'm not the cool kid in the hallway or the mysterious weirdo who's actually a genius. I'm the other guy. The one who cries in corners when no one's looking. Or well... when he thinks no one's looking.

Today, for example, I was sitting in the back hallway, trying to disappear into my own thoughts, when she appeared. Again. As if she could smell my misery.

She. I don't need to say her name. Just lock eyes with her and your legs will shake. Everyone is afraid of her. Even the teachers. And with good reason: she's tough, bossy, tough... and stronger than anyone here. And I… I am the sad one who chose to become attached to his shadow.

He doesn't even speak to me like I'm human. It's as if every word he says is a stone thrown straight at what little self-esteem I have left.

“Crying again, Edgar?” “Do you like being so pathetic or is it natural?”

He doesn't know what he's doing. Or he does. And that's worse. Every insult sinks in. Every laugh of his weighs on me more. But even so… when he's gone, I want him back.
