Khajiit

They are humanoids who inhabit the continent of Tamriel, primarily their home province of Elsweyr. The Khajiit, along with the Argonian, are known as the beast-races of Tamriel. They are recognized for their cat-like appearance, their subtle accent, and for being the creators of Skooma through the refining of moonsugar, which is why they are not well-regarded socially and their public image is rather negative. They have a weakness for sweets and are known for their natural agility and stealth.

Many Khajiit scorn weapons in favor of their claws. This makes them excellent thieves, thanks to their unparalleled agility and acrobatic ability. They are also warriors, though this is primarily the case in Cathay, and rarely among those found throughout Tamriel. In addition to their swiftness, they have developed a skill in stealth and have the benefit of night vision. These skills, combined with the general tendency of humans and mer to look down on Khajiit as "beasts," leads many to flee their home province to become professional bandits or thieves.

Elsweyr

In general, the entire region is fairly arid, except for the southern part, due to the influence of the ocean. Vegetation can grow in this area, allowing for the establishment of illegal moon sugar plantations. This region has significant deserts, such as the Anequina Desert.

In the northernmost part of the region lies the city of Fluvia, situated on a hill near a waterfall. It is a city with great defensive capabilities due to its advantageous position. To the west is the city of Duna, located in the Anequina Desert, which is plagued by numerous sandstorms and droughts. This city houses the palace that serves as the political center of the region. Nearby is a savannah area inhabited by various Khajiit tribes.

Further south are the cities of Orcelia and Corinth. A large orc population can be found in Orcelia. The southernmost city, Senchal, is home to Tamriel's largest seaport, making it the most economically vibrant city in the region.

Within the deserts are ancient Dwemer cities that are currently used for Khajiit funeral rites.

History of Elsweyr

Elsweyr is home to an ancient civilization commonly believed to predate the arrival of the mer and humans. Although this would be difficult to verify, it is known that there were hundreds of cities in the province. Some of these have been buried by the sands of the northwestern desert; some have been covered by the jungles of the south; others have been destroyed by humans and even elves, and khajiit. It has also been said that the khajiit were nomadic across Tamriel before other creatures. The khajiit are believed to have been responsible for the extinction of the so-called birdmen.

First Era The Khajiit appear to have already developed a sophisticated civilization, while other races were just beginning to discover agriculture. Elsweyr was divided into as many as sixteen kingdoms, the most notable of which was the Kingdom of Anequina, which expanded in the so-called Anequina Conquests until the arrival of the Thrasian Plague in 2260 EA devastated all of Tamriel.

Second Era Only the kingdoms of Anequina and Pellitine are known to have survived this catastrophe intact, and decided to forge an Alliance of Peace at that time, thus creating a unified confederation in 309 SA. During the formation of this new nation, it is possible that an ancient Khajiit proverb was recalled, which was based on the phrase "the perfect society is always elsewhere," resulting in the union's name. Another possibility is a reference to Llesw'er, a paradise promised to the Khajiit by Riddle'Thar. Regardless of the specific origin of the name, it seems to inspire a sense of optimism that is likely unsupported by reality.

In 576 SA, Euraxia Tharn marched towards Rimmen with a portion of her loyal troops to take control of the city, killing King Hemakar and almost all of his family, and with it, much of the kingdom of Anequina, in what was called the Quarrel of Frost.

History of Elsweyr PT2

From that location, he ruled with an iron fist and extreme cruelty over his Khajiit vassals; but the Khajiit, depleted in military might, were unable to organize a successful rebellion in those early years. In 580 SA, the portion of Anequina that had escaped Euraxia's control joined with the Summerset Isles and Valenwood to form the First Aldmeri Dominion, an alliance whose goal was to fight for control of Cyrodiil and the Ruby Throne, further limiting their ability to oppose the despot of Rimmen. Hemakar's daughter, Khamira, had managed to escape the purge of her family and, hiding in the shadows, joined the Khajiit resistance.

In 582 SA, the Elsweyr region that had joined the Alliance War within the Aldmeri Dominion, which was the region surrounding Reaper's Mark - the city of Dune and its surroundings - was hit by an invasion by Imperial troops commanded by Javad Tharn. At the same time, it had to deal with the Darkmane, a form of Darkmane that resulted from the possession of the Akkhuz-ri Mane and the dro-m'Athra that accompanied it. This was resolved when the Vestige managed to seal it within Mount Lunar while helping the twins Shazah and Khali become the new spiritual leaders of the Khajiit.

History of Elsweyr PT3

Meanwhile, Khamira waited for her time, which finally came when Abnur Tharn mistakenly released Kaalgrontiid and his dragons, imprisoned in the Halls of the Colossi since a distant era. This weakened the power of Euraxia, which tried to make a pact with the dragons to maintain it, only to be betrayed by them; while at the same time, the Remnant joined Abnur Tharn in ending the dragon threat, aiding the Khajiit resistance along the way in recapturing Rimmen and Anequina, which were finally in the hands of the now Queen Khamira.

Kaalgrontiid managed to escape to southern Elsweyr, where he settled in an attempt to regain his former power. He summoned some of his dragon followers there to join him, terrorizing the city of Senchal. The former captain of the Dragonguard, Sai Sahan, felt it his duty when he saw this and decided to answer the distress call of the Khajiit on the Quin'rawl Peninsula, where he encountered the Remnant again. Together they managed to refound the Dragonguard, and with the unexpected help of a dragon named Nahfahlaar, an enemy of the man who had sown terror in the area, an evil dragon known as Laatvulon, they were able to destroy their winged enemies one by one until peace was restored to the area.

At the end of the Second Era, Elsweyr was incorporated into Tiber Septim's Empire during the Tiber Wars, which ushered in a new period of relative peace and stability. When the Imperial Simulacrum weakened the Empire's influence, the Khajiit in Elsweyr became embroiled in the Five Year War with Valenwood. Elsweyr triumphed in the conflict and was able to claim both banks of the Xylo River. This territorial gain was later repealed due to a reconciliation of Elsweyr's border with the County of Leyawiin in Cyrodiil.
