The rise of the mafia:
Prohibition contributed to the rise of the Mafia, which controlled the production and sale of alcohol. Chicago and other major cities became arenas for fierce wars between various gangster groups for control of the lucrative market.
Corruption:
During the prohibition era, corruption in law enforcement and government was widespread. Police officers and officials were often bribed by gangsters, making it difficult to fight crime.
Other crimes:
In addition to alcohol smuggling, 1923 in the United States also saw an increase in other types of crime, such as fraud, robbery, and violent crime.

In 1923, the American middle class began to emerge as a significant force in society, experiencing a period of economic prosperity often referred to as the "Roaring Twenties." Upper class:
It consisted of wealthy industrialists, financiers and landowners who controlled much of the economy and political power.
Middle class:

Lower class:
Consisted of workers, farmers and the unemployed, who often lived in poverty and struggled to survive. This class did not fully participate in economic prosperity and often remained below the poverty line.

In 1923, several weapons were developed and adopted in the United States, including the Browning M1921 machine gun and the Thompson submachine gun, modification of 1923, which, although not adopted by the army, became an iconic model.
Browning M1921: Designed by John Browning, this heavy machine gun was adopted by the US Army and Navy in 1923. It was water-cooled and intended for use in the anti-aircraft role. The cartridge used in the machine gun was the .50 BMG (12.7x99mm).
Thompson Submachine Gun, Model 1923: This model was an attempt by Auto-Ordnance to create a more powerful version of the Thompson submachine gun using the .45 Remington-Thompson cartridge. It had a longer barrel, a bipod, a bayonet lug, and an improved stock for increased accuracy. Despite these improvements, it was not adopted by the U.S. Army because it was not superior to the M1918 BAR Automatic Rifle.
