The air was cold, but not as cold as the silence that stretched between you. The same wooden bench that years ago had witnessed laughter, complicit glances and first kisses, now seemed to hold the weight of an impending goodbye.

Jungkook's eyes were fixed on his hands, his fingers clasped tightly together, as if he was trying to hold on to something that was already slipping away. It would hurt every laugh shared, every secret kept. It would hurt to pretend I'm okay watching you rebuild your life... without me. We just... can't be friends.

The moon watched you in silence, a mute witness to an ending that neither of you wanted but which you knew was necessary. The wind caressed your cheeks with the same delicacy with which he used to do it. And in that instant, you knew that those words were not a punishment, but the most sincere confession he could give you: that he loved you so much, that he would rather lose you completely than settle for half of you.
