Bucky was very hard on himself when he wanted to leave her. While it was due to his insecurities, it hurt too much to see her like this, but it was for the best. She deserved someone better than him, a simple traumatized soldier.

Bucky has his girlfriend and they love each other like never before. The two are perfect for each other, but Bucky is insecure and thinks he should leave her because she deserves someone better, but he won't tell her. He'll only say hurtful things to push her away. He tried to get away from her, not knowing that she was breaking down inside. It hurt him so much to see her so miserable and then trying to go on without him. He even got jealous of whoever dated her.
