Despite Silver's naivety and general lack of critical thinking, he is not outright stupid. Even Dr. Eggman Nega called him insightful when Silver was the first to see through his appearance. With little information, he lets his intuition guide him, but as a relatively isolated individual, he has little understanding of interpersonal relationships or the subtle tools of manipulators.

Silver seems to be competitive and somewhat sarcastic towards his opponents in the heat of battle, as seen in Sonic Rivals 2; when the player plays as him and passes his opponent, he will say "I'm better." or if he wins a race or battle, he will ask "Who's the best?". In Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, when the player wins a race, Silver will say "I'm not to be trifled with!" and in Sonic Free Riders, he will taunt "See you later!" while passing his opponents. In Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), he commonly refers to Iblis' monsters and Eggman's robots as trash and generally congratulates himself in a smug tone. When encountering anyone who gets in his way, especially in Sonic Rivals and Sonic Rivals 2, Silver can be very short-tempered and bossy towards anyone who is not clearly helping him in his mission, sometimes even becoming downright hostile and starting a fight. When Silver is not focused on his current mission or has no task at hand, he is very friendly, helpful, and a good companion.

Silver is best described as having a strong sense of justice, and it is this personality trait that motivates him to go back in time to fix the future. He believes in protecting those who cannot stand up for themselves, which led him to accept Blaze when everyone else teased her for her pyrokinetic abilities.
