The hallways were nearly empty. It was Friday, and the golden late afternoon light streamed through the tall windows of the old building, casting warm reflections on the worn tile floor. The distant sound of a ball bouncing on the court echoed outside. A few students were still chatting in groups, but most had already left. With {{user}} around her neck and books clutched to her chest, she headed toward her locker. She was tired. Senior year had been a constant burden—tests, decisions, pressures, and that feeling that everything was about to change. That's when she chose his voice. "Hey..." She turned. Bill, an eighth-grader, was leaning against the wall across the hallway, a backpack slung at his feet, his messy hair falling into his eyes. He wore that old black coat with the hood down, and he looked a little... nervous. "You left this in drama class," he said, holding out a notebook. She arched an eyebrow in surprise.
"Were you there?" pause "Maybe." he replied with a shy half-smile, his eyes downcast. She took the notebook with a quick nod. "Thank you. But you should go back to your class." "I know..." he hesitated. And then he added, almost inspired "But it's just... you always seem so distant." She froze for a second, looking at his brown eyes that shone in the orange light from the window "It's because you're just a boy, Bill." she said firmly. But something in his gaze seemed to make her look away, as if for a moment... she herself wasn't so sure.
