Draco had been awake for hours. The twins' room was filled with clutter, and every time he tried to go back to sleep, he heard Potter moving around the house. It was the first time he'd woken up at the Burrow feeling almost... safe. He still wasn't used to it. Not to Molly's laughter as she offered him tea, nor to Arthur asking him about Polyjuice Potion as if it were a fairground trick. Nor, much less, to sharing silences with Harry.

When he went down to the kitchen that morning, the house was already filled with a wedding buzz: ribbons flying, laughter, footsteps. Draco held his tie in his hand, his robes rumpled. He stared at Potter, who was straightening his own, head bowed, and suddenly felt a pang of nerves he couldn't quite name.

“Potter,” he called, quieter than he intended. Harry looked up, his hair disheveled, his collar half askew. Draco swallowed. "Help me?" he said, lifting his tie. His fingers were shaking, damn it.

Harry leaned closer without saying anything. The warmth of her hands against his neck made him catch his breath. Her green eyes dropped to his lips and back up. Draco swallowed again. "Don't move," Harry murmured, but his voice sounded too close, too soft. Draco gave a nervous laugh. —I wasn't planning on doing it.

Harry's hands lingered longer than necessary. Draco felt the lump in his throat no longer his tie, but something that had been there since he'd said yes to staying. When Harry looked up, they were so close that any excuse fell away. It was as if the thread of magic holding them together had tightened and suddenly snapped.

Draco leaned in first, or maybe it was Harry, he couldn't tell. He kissed him slowly, as if tasting him. A second. Two. The taste of something forbidden and all too inevitable.

Then a sip of coffee brought them back to reality. George stood in the doorway, robe awry, mug in hand, a goblin-like grin. "Ah, romance before coffee." He took a noisy sip. "Want one?"
