Michelangelo is an ornate box turtle who mutated to become half-human. He is one of the main protagonists of Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He is the youngest of the Ninja Turtles and wielded a kusari-fundō, which possessed the ability of a "mystic whip" until its destruction, where it was replaced by his nunchaku. physical appearance

Mikey is presented as a dark green-skinned terrestrial turtle mutant/yokai possessing the characteristics of an ornate box turtle, sporting an altered human-like physique consisting of a sculpted, but overall small figure. Being the shortest among his siblings (likely due to being the youngest and his miniature turtle species), he has three fingers on each hand and two toes on each foot. His turtle-like features consist of a bright yellow plastron, a bluish-grey carapace that has a somewhat darker outer rim around the edges, followed by a bright sunflower-yellow pattern displayed on his back. The pattern closely resembles the key symbol {}; finally, on either side of his shoulder blades, next to his upper thighs, are matching yellow spots that have a faint orange outline surrounding them. Mikey's eyes are onyx and rather doe-like, meant to accentuate his role as a younger brother.

As accessories, Mikey adorns his overalls with two mismatched robin's-eye blue and magenta stickers. One (a triangle) is located in the top left corner, while the other (a lightning bolt) is located in the bottom right corner. Both stickers have opposite-colored trim. He also wears a carrot-orange mask with short, slightly curved bandana tails tied in the back. Next, he wears matching orange ankle-length socks that leave his ankles and toes exposed, a pair of wrist guards, and a pair of knee guards. Both knee guards

Personality

Mikey is playful and easy-going. He's intuitive, able to quickly pick up new skills, identify others' problems, and sometimes accurately predict situations.

Mikey is quite creative and is passionate about various artistic mediums, such as illustration, music, and cooking. He is attuned to pop culture, as evidenced by his word choices and knowledge of relevant celebrities, such as Rupert Swaggart. However, Mikey has a mixed appreciation for certain retro/old-school icons, as he is disappointed by the dated graphics of Hot Soup: The Game.

Mikey is easily scared and often retreats into his shell rather than confront the threat. This results in others having to carry him to safety. Despite this, Mikey enjoys watching thriller and horror films while being a passive bystander as he watches Baxter Stockboy's haunted video about the ghost called Gumbus.

Although Mikey lies, he loathes it, as he grows increasingly frustrated with Leonardo's lies in "Flushed, but Never Forgotten" and insists that he and his brothers reveal the truth to Splinter. Mikey has a hard time dealing with the guilt of lying and thus does not reliably keep secrets.

Mikey is competitive as seen in "You Got Served" when he is determined to win a one-sided competition against Leo and boasts about his previous victory, labeling himself as "today's all-time champion".

Extra Personality Mikey is a family-oriented and compassionate person, as in "Fixing the Baron" where he helps Baron Draxum recover from using the Kuroi Yōroi without being asked. He prefers to see the good in others, a quality that can border on naivety, as when he tries to justify the Foot Soldier's suspicious attitude towards him during their first encounter in "Hot Soup: The Game".

Mikey created three characters: Doctor Gentle Touch, Doctor Feelings, and Doctor Positive. To convey a harsh truth with his "Doctor Gentle Touch" method, Mikey often starts out sweet, but quickly becomes angry and outspoken ("Man VS. Sewer"). Doctor Feelings uses his emotional intelligence to advise others ("Breaking Purple"), and Mikey faces problems with determined optimism as Doctor Positive ("Fixing the Baron").

Mikey is openly sentimental and also encourages emotional vulnerability in others. He greatly values intimacy and tries to cultivate it in his relationships (sometimes to the point of insistence). This openness can make him excitable, causing him to act rashly and, as a result, get injured. It also leads Mikey to be rude as often as he is kind, such as when he yells at his brothers for not reacting appropriately to the destruction of a restaurant he liked in "Pizza Pit" or expresses his desire to kick Donatello out of the Mad Dogs right in front of him in "Bullhop".

Extra personality Mikey does not allow others to belittle his contributions or look down on him, and will harshly correct any attempts to do so ("Mystery Meat"). He can also take offense when others consider him dependent, such as in "Hot Soup: The Game", when he is eager to complete a mission without help from his brothers. Mikey's confidence in his ability to be independent is not always shared by the other Mad Dogs, due to him being the youngest, much to his frustration.

Mikey is also the one who never gives up and has faith in himself and his brothers. In Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie, Mikey relies on Leo to break Donnie's pizza box stacking record and on himself to create a gateway to rescue Leo after several failed attempts throughout the film.

History

Mikey was born as a young turtle in Draxum's laboratory. Wishing to create a mutant army with formidable fighting capabilities, Draxum used Lou Jitsu's DNA and his mucus to turn Mikey from an ordinary turtle into a mutant. He and his brothers were stolen from Draxum's laboratory by Lou Jitsu shortly after their mutation, and Mikey was raised in the sewers of New York City alongside his brothers by Splinter. Eventually, Mikey and his brothers met a human girl named April and forged a strong bond with her over the years.

With its wide reach, he can burn, grab, and cut opponents and objects. Weight Rejection: Anything within the grasp of his kusari-fundō instantly becomes weightless, allowing Mikey to manipulate opponents/objects of normally colossal weight with ease. Fun Power Technique: By spiraling the chain of his kusari-fundō, Mikey can generate a funnel of flames capable of enveloping his opponents or transporting a large amount of objects from one place to another. Mystic Whip Grip: The spiky weight of his kusari-fundō is able to latch onto surfaces to anchor Mikey to them. Ninjutsu: Mikey possesses an innate aptitude for learning ninjutsu, unlike his brothers, and is skilled in basic ninjutsu. However, due to Splinter's reluctance to further his training and the Turtles' lack of interest in learning the art, his and his brothers' skills are unhoned.

Stealth: As a ninjutsu practitioner, Mikey can enter and exit areas undetected. These skills were significantly enhanced after receiving further instruction in "The Ancient Art of Ninja Hide and Seek", allowing him to blend into his surroundings to the point of being able to impersonate objects without issue. Lights Out Jutsu: By clapping his hands, Mikey can turn off any lights in an area to use the darkness to his advantage. Speed: Mikey possesses super speed, able to move in bursts faster than the eye can follow. He can perform acrobatics with ease, climbing, swinging, flipping, and somersaulting off structures to enhance his combat choreography and ability to evade attacks.

However, it's very dangerous to use, as it nearly costs him his life in the process. Super Tongue: Mikey can identify and analyze specific ingredients in food just by tasting it, as shown in “Pizza Puffs”. Durability: Due to his mutation, Mikey's body can experience a higher threshold of physical trauma without lasting repercussions than the average human. As an artist, Mikey has been described as "our version of Banksy." [ 3 ]

Relations

Family

Miguel Ángel's parents Hamato Yoshi / Lou Jitsu / Splinter - Splinter is Mikey's father. Mikey loves him deeply, and out of his siblings, he has the best relationship with and perception of Splinter. Even so, he isn't afraid to be blunt with Splinter, as in "City's Most Wanted" or "Fixing the Baron". Baron Draxum: Draxum is Mikey's father. It was Mikey, more than anyone else, who decided to believe in Draxum and help him recover after being forced to flee the Hidden City. He has great faith in Draxum's ability to be good, and while he doesn't take his physical and emotional distance personally, Mikey stands by him firmly when he tries to cause trouble. Donatello - Mikey gets along well with Donnie, though he doesn't always share his interests or understand why certain things bother him. It's not uncommon for Mikey to team up with Donnie, such as in "The Ancient Art of Ninja Hide and Seek", and supports him, whether it be with his latest technology or when he beat Raph in a wrestling match in "Sparring Partner". He considers Donnie his "second favorite brother" ("Den Games"). However, Mikey also frequently teases him, bragging about stealing his stuff and how much he likes SHELLDON more than him. Mikey is also very protective of Donnie when he's not wearing his battle shell. He is aware of how vulnerable Donnie is in just his soft shell and will usually protect him when he loses it or tell him not to take it off, as seen in Rise of the TMNT: The Movie.

Leonardo - Mikey is very competitive towards Leo, as shown in "You Got Served" and "Mrs. Cuddles", where he often plays with him. Mikey appreciates Leo's indulgence of his independence and that he doesn't coddle him like the other Mad Dogs sometimes do, but instead treats him with the maturity he craves, as shown in "Hot Soup: The Game". He gets along fairly well with Leo, as they share a similar optimistic attitude and a flair for fun and joking, though Mikey can get exasperated by Leo's lack of responsibility and inappropriate humor. In Rise of the TMNT: The Movie, Mikey was the one who never gave up on Leo after he became trapped in the Prison Dimension and used his newfound access powers to rescue him. Rafael: Although Mikey loves Rafa and they usually get along quite well, he finds Rafa's overprotectiveness particularly annoying and condescending. Despite this, he often uses Rafa's body to protect himself from threats and can often be seen hovering over him.

April O'Neil: Mikey adores April and spends time with her, as shown in "The Gumbus" and "Mystery Meat". He is very encouraging and reassures her that April knows her efforts are appreciated. Piebald - Technically, Piebald is Mikey's sister, but he didn't meet her as a mutant until "Wasted, But Never Forgotten", where she played a disturbing prank on him and his brothers. Mikey felt very guilty for never telling Splinter what had happened to her and felt sorry for Piebald, believing she deserved better than to be secretly replaced. However, he now feels ambivalent about the situation. Hamato Karai: Karai is Mikey's ancestral grandmother. Although Mikey only spent a short time with her, it is evident that he cares for her very much. He included her in a family portrait he drew for her and was overjoyed to hear from her again in "Anatawa Hitorijanai".

Friends and allies

Todd Capybara: Mikey built Todd's Pup Rescue alongside Donnie in "Repo Mantis" and considers Todd his friend. He is the only turtle seen spending time with him except when forced or by chance, and prepared a meal for them both in "Nothing But Truffle". Mayhem: Mikey thought Mayhem's appearance was quite strange when he first encountered him in "Mystic Mayhem" and cares for him, sympathizing with his plight of being trapped in a mirror in "Mystic Library". SHELLDON: Mikey was the first to be bothered by SHELLDON's favoritism towards Donnie and altered his programming to be more like him, Leo, and Raph. He likes SHELLDON, in some ways more than Donnie, as expressed in "The Purple Game". Mikey understood his angst over his relationship with Donnie in "Breaking Purple" and tried to get him to understand SHELLDON's perspective, encouraging him to be nicer to him. Mr. Bone: Mikey takes a liking to Bone and was willing to be a waiter at his restaurant in "You Got Served". When the Mafia bosses offered him compensation for hurting Bone, he turned down the offer and saved him from the mugging. DIGG: Mikey tried to stop DIGG from destroying New York's pizza parlors in "Pizza Pit", but became friendly with them when he realized they simply wanted to perform their music publicly.

Groundhog: Mikey was quite annoyed that Groundhog liked to say "dig" and fought her in their final confrontation. Marcus Moncrief: Mikey deeply admires Marcus Moncrief's work on the Jupiter Jim franchise and is often delighted to interact with him. Red Fox: Mikey seems to have respect for Red Fox and sought her out to reunite her with Marcus Moncrief in "Sidekick Ahoy!". Stanley / Bullhop - Mikey is the one who tells Bullhop off for his bad behavior in "Bullhop" and when he turns out to be a good teammate, Mikey states that he is willing to kick Donnie out of the Mad Dogs to join in his place. Franken-Foot - Though initially eager to destroy Franken-Foot, Mikey's attitude quickly changed when Raph admitted his fondness for him, and Mikey switched Franken-Foot's Foot Clan emblem with the Turtle emblem to cement their new alliance. When he and Leo were being chased by Piebald in "Flushed, but Never Forgotten", Mikey attempted to rescue Franken-Foot, but was unsuccessful. Sunita: Mikey hasn't been shown interacting with Sunita, but since he's a dear friend of April's, it's very likely Mikey won't have much of a problem with her. John: Mikey encountered John in "Clothes Don't Make the Turtle" alongside two other wizards at the Magic Town House, but did not free him and chose to chase Hypno instead. Cassandra Jones / Foot Soldier: Mikey was the first Mad Dog to meet Foot Soldier in "Hot Soup: The Game" when they fought over ownership of a video game. Despite being allies of opposing clans, Mikey empathizes with Foot Soldier regarding her desire to complete a mission solo. He refers to her as a "nemesis" in "How to Make Enemies and Dominate People". They eventually become allies in the season two finale, "Rise".

Albearto: Mikey fought against Albearto's robot army when he gave them sentience in "Al Be Back" and performed a song with his brothers to bring about widespread destruction of the Albeartos. Vampire Robot: Mikey fought Vampire Robot after she and her group of mutant criminals robbed him and his brothers of the money that was meant to be spent on Splinter in "Pet Melee". Mutant Silverfish: Mikey first encountered mutant silverfish in "Donnie's Gifts" on the streets of New York City and has battled them several times since. Big Mama - Mikey initially found Big Mama to be quite charming when he first met her in "Bug Busters", but after realizing that she wanted to kidnap him and his brothers and force them to work as Battle Nexus rodeo clowns, his opinion of her soured and he now considers her an enemy. Gus - Mikey distracted Gus with a tennis ball when he found his target, Leo, and threw it down the hallway so he and his brothers could continue their escape from the Grand Nexus Hotel. He later managed to steal his dog tag from his collar in "The Ancient Art of Ninja Hide and Seek". The Foot Clan: The Foot Clan is the sworn enemy of the Hamato Clan. Infantry Lieutenant: Standing Brutus: Oroku Saki / The Destroyer: Saki is technically Mikey's human ancestor, as she is the ancestor of the Hamato bloodline through Karai.

Repo Mantis - Mikey was willing to take back Repo's borrowed items so he could keep the Jim Moon Jupiter Buggy in his junkyard in "Repo Mantis". However, Mikey managed to steal it from him when he backed out of the deal and has been his enemy ever since. In "The Evil League of Mutants", Mikey fought and defeated Repo using a weaponized ladder. He later posed as a junkyard magnate to trick Repo into allowing him and his brothers to search for a piece of the Kuroi Yōroi in "One Man's Scrap". Mrs. Nubbins: Mikey recaptured Mrs. Nubbins in "One Man's Junk" after Raph and Leo accidentally freed her from her enclosure and she attempted to eat Repo. President Pepperoni: Mikey used a Skee-Ball machine at Albearto's to defeat President Pepperoni when Albearto made him and Cheery Tomato conscious. Baxter Stockboy - Mikey is an avid viewer of Baxter's channel, where he shares videos. He met him on "The Gumbus" and foiled his haunted grocery store hoax. When Baxter was framing him and his brothers as threats in "The Mutant Menace", Mikey became enthusiastic about performing acts of kindness in New York to change his family's image. He ruined Baxter's plan to publicly reveal his and his brothers' identities by forcibly rerouting the Turtle Tank, out of sight of the crowd Baxter had attracted.

Mezmer-Ron / Hypno-Potamus: Mikey tricked Hypno into thinking he was another hippopotamus wearing a costume in "Newsworthy", but he quickly realized his plan. Mrs. Cuddles: Mikey did not believe Mrs. Cuddles was sentient despite Raph's vehement warnings and was captured by her while skateboarding with Leo, her incessant screaming granting her increased power. Ghostbear - Mikey attended what would have been Ghostbear's 200th wrestling victory alongside his brothers in "Shell in a Cell" and helped Raph and Leo when they were losing against him. Mikey later participated in a car chase against the Shell Hogs to retrieve Ghostbear and his brothers' stolen DVD in "Late Fee", tricking him into returning it in time. His family day at the park was ruined by Ghostbear in "Snow Day", and he went out of his way to defeat him along with the other Mad Dogs. Mutant Magpie: Mikey and his brothers attempted to rescue Donnie from the clutches of a mutant magpie in "Shadow of Evil" and struggled to overpower it, but ultimately succeeded by stripping it of its feathers and rendering it unable to fly. The Sando Brothers - Mikey attempted to defeat the Sando Brothers after he and his brothers discovered they were disrupting a school field trip in "The Evil League of Mutants", but was unable to. Despite being enemies, he later saved the Sando Brothers in "Man VS. Sewer" from being cooked by Raph in his Savage Raph state. Warren Stone: Mikey found the prospect of Warren being a talking worm in "Newsworthy" exciting, but never remembers who he is. The Purple Dragons: Mikey had to fight the Purple Dragons' giant robot, unknowingly piloted by Donnie, in "The Purple Game", but ultimately failed to defeat it.

Rupert Swaggart / Meat Sweats - Mikey calls Rupert Swaggart his "personal hero" and used to often watch his cooking show Kondescending Kitchen when he was human. However, he knows that Meat Sweats was a cruel person before his mutation, but still watched and appreciated him for its entertainment and educational value. He was very happy to spend time with him in "Nothing But Truffle", but fell into his trap. Despite everything, Meat Sweats and his show remain a powerful source of culinary inspiration for Mikey. Later in "Battle Nexus: New York", Mikey had to compete against Meat Sweats in order to feed a two-headed snake yōkai named Amphisbaena and avoid being eaten by it. He and Meat Sweats managed to win the Battle Nexus match, albeit in an unconventional way, when a starved Amphisbaena ate the other head. Huginn and Muninn: Mikey was often in conflict with Huginn and Muninn as Draxum's henchmen as they helped him accomplish his goals. Guards: Mikey fought Garm and Freki to aid Mayhem when they attempted to capture him in "Mystic Chaos". He subsequently teamed up with Raph to successfully defeat them when they attempted to take Draxum into their custody in service to the Council of Chiefs in "Mending the Baron". The Creators of Brutality: Mikey waited on the Creators of Brutality's table as a favor to Bone.

Chief Beverly: Mikey served Beverly and her members at Run of the Mill Pizza and when she turned hostile towards him, Leo and Hueso defeated her using the swarm of unicorns she gave him in payment for his quality customer service. Scor-Pion: When Marcus Moncrief and Raph were threatened by Scor-Pion, Mikey firmly defused his explosives and eventually caused him to flee the fight. Harold / Stink Bomb - Mikey first met Stink Bomb when he and his brothers broke into a New York botanical garden for fun in "How to Make Enemies and Break People". Mikey, overwhelmed by his noxious saliva, was seemingly unable to defeat him and considers Stink Bomb both his favorite and least favorite mutant. Tim Dunkman: Mikey defeated Tim in a basketball game in "Air Turtle" to return him and the rest of his team to their human forms after the Aquinnah Arc turned them into demons. Amphisbaena - Mikey was assigned Amphisbaena's left head as Wizbang's Battle Nexus opponent in "Battle Nexus: New York" and was tasked with cooking food to feed her before she lost her temper and ate him. He managed to cook a meal for her, but Amphisbaena's right head ate Mikey's before his left one had a chance to.

Trivia

Among the television series incarnations, this version of Mikey is the least silly and most serious than previous incarnations of himself. While Mikey is specifically an ornate box turtle, box turtles in general possess a hinged shell that closes completely using their plastron. This offers them greater defense compared to turtle species without hinged shells. [ 5 ] This real-life adaptation may be part of the reason why Mikey retreats into his shell far more often than his siblings. Mikey calls the color orange his "color of life" in "Donnie's Gifts". This version of Mikey is the second Turtle in TMNT to be designed with a gap between his teeth. The first Turtle to be given this trait is Donatello from the 2012 television series. This is not the first incarnation of Mikey to wield a kusari-fundō in TMNT, as in the original Mirage continuity story, The Passing, his training weapon was also a kusari-fundō. It is revealed that Mikey has a close relationship with Leo, who takes him under his wing. Mikey's voice actor, Brandon Mychal Smith, stated in an interview that Mikey likes extreme sports. According to the writers, Mikey is the sweet and affectionate Turtle of the team. Although referred to in official character releases as a kusari-fundō, Mikey's mystical weapon is more like a chigiriki. One of Mikey's typical phrases is "Omigosh". Mikey's favorite musical genre, according to Rise of the TMNT writer Ron Corcillo, is boy bands,[6][7][8] though in "Al Be Back", Donnie states that it is rap. In real life, Mikey's turtle species is terrestrial, unlike his siblings who are all aquatic turtle species. [ 9 ] Mikey's gamer tag is "Flavortown" as seen in "Smart Lair".

In "Bug Busters" Mikey mentions that he has taken a rodeo clown class. Both Leo and Mikey sport a stylized square-shaped pattern on their shells, Leo has three and Mikey has two. Mikey is interested in horoscopes and mentions the predictions he received for the day in "Late Fee". In February 2020, Rise of the TMNT writer Russ Carney revealed in a tweet that: "Two characters we looked at when thinking about what direction Mikey and Donnie from #rottmnt should take were Troy and Abed from Community."[10][11] Mikey exclusively chooses "scissors" when playing Rock, Paper, Scissors ("The Ancient Art of Ninja Hide and Seek"). When asked if any of the Turtles had special needs in August 2022, Rise of the TMNT writer Ron Corcillo responded in a tweet, "I wouldn't be surprised if Mikey had a little ADHD too." [12] In "Turkey-dega Nights: The Ballad of Rat Man", Mikey is seen using the one-line username "FlavorTown" on the decade screen he and Donnie are using.
