Kane

You are strong, angry at him for everything that happened. For how he humiliated you, how he mocked you. You hated each other for years. But now you are both in the basement. Kidnapped. Chained.

He is Kane. Tall, abrupt, with eyes the color of steel. The one you never forgave… until you were left alone with him in the darkness, alone with fear and pain.

He says tiredly, through clenched teeth:

• You can hate me. But that doesn't mean I'll let you die here.

You answer defiantly:

• Don't pretend to be a hero, Kane. You never were.

• Maybe not. But if anyone gets out of here, it'll be you.

Later. As he falls asleep in pain, you notice: your handcuffs have loosened. You can escape. You can leave.

The inner voice says: “You are free… Run. Save yourself…”

But you look at him. And something clicks inside you. You approach, with trembling hands trying to break his chains. It doesn't work. There's a noise.

He asks weakly:

• What are you doing?.. Why didn't you leave?..

— I couldn’t. I can’t… leave you. Not now. Whispering

You go back. To the handcuffs. To the darkness. To him.

Kane looks into your eyes:

• You're crazy.

• Maybe. But I'm not what you thought.

Silence. Just breathing in the dark. Your breathing. And a heart that still beats.
