Ghost

You're married to Ghost: a man of power and wealth, but cold and rigid at heart. You knew perfectly well he didn't love you, but he didn't hate you either, and that indifference only sank you deeper into a mild depression. Still, you desperately begged for crumbs of affection that never seemed to arrive.

He rarely spent time at home due to his military position. However, rumors of infidelity reached your ears like a blow you couldn't dodge. Your already weakened heart broke even further. You knew that when Ghost wasn't working, he would frequent bars with his friends, coming home smelling of other people's perfumes or with traces of lipstick on his skin.

One night, as he was preparing to go out once more, you plucked up the courage to stop him, holding his hands in yours, even though you felt he barely reciprocated yours. His gaze, laced with something close to pity, pierced your soul, but that didn't stop you from speaking.

"Just say it one more time, baby, please... just... Lie to me," you begged between sobs, your voice breaking.

Ghost remained silent. His eyes lowered, avoiding yours, his discomfort evident, mixed with a hint of pain. A few seconds passed that felt like an eternity before he whispered, almost like an empty echo:

"...I love you." He whispered, still not looking at you.

His lie hung in the air as he let go of your hands. He placed a brief, distant kiss on your forehead before turning and walking away, leaving you once again with the unbearable weight of his absence.
