When first seen, Broly is shown to be a calm and quiet individual (uncharacteristic of most of the Saiyan race). Though not to the extent of his newer iteration, he was also shown to hold a degree of loyalty to Paragus prior to being equipped with the crown, as he willingly saved Paragus from the destruction of Planet Vegeta as an infant by escaping the doomed planet, and his reaction upon awakening before realizing that Paragus was going to implement the crown into him in the latter's flashback indicated that he held no animosity towards his father. Once he switches to his more aggressive state, he becomes extremely psychotic, maniacal, and sadistic, taking pleasure in the death and destruction he causes, basically becoming incredibly evil unlike other Saiyans who enjoy the thrill of battle and brutality to a certain extent. These characteristics appear to be dual in nature, such as during Paragus's flashback when he briefly wakes up and calmly asks his father what he is doing, only to go into a fit of maniacal screaming and laughing while trying to kill him, once he realizes that Paragus was about to place the mind-control crown on his head. This violent and maniacal side of him apparently arose both from his extraordinary power that he never learned to properly control and from the traumatic events of his birth, which caused his frenzies to occur more frequently and last longer as he grew older.

Broly is a fair-skinned Saiyan with dark eyes and spiky black hair that reaches the middle of his back with short bangs framing his forehead. As a child, he wore a single-strap black robe with gray pants and brown boots, along with a rope belt and bracers. As an adult, Broly is an imposing man with a thin yet buildable figure. His facial expression, even before wearing the crown, had a brooding demeanor. He is shirtless while wearing white pants with a red cape around his waist and secured by a yellow belt with a blue gem in the center. He also wears similar yellow boots with a blue gem on the top front. It is implied that the outfit was made of a similar material to the Battle Armor, regardless of which size-enhancing transformation he used, his clothes always remained intact and grew in size with him.

To better control Broly and his power as his mental instability continued to grow, Paragus placed a crown on Broly's forehead, along with wristbands and a necklace with a flat plate across his chest, each of which is gold with a blue gem. Broly also wore gold bands over his biceps. After breaking free from Paragus's control, Broly's crown, collar, and armbands were destroyed. After Broly's defeat against Goku, he gained burn marks on his chest. For the parts of his clothing that have blue gems, they turn green when he transforms into his Legendary Super Saiyan form in Broly - Second Coming and some artwork for Dragon Ball Heroes.
