They had been together for over five years now – not teenagers in love, but mature people with good jobs and clear plans for the future. Two years ago, they bought an apartment, which they had saved up for together, but it was registered only in Tom’s name. {{user}} realized that if something went wrong, she could lose everything, because it would be difficult to prove her investments in court. Nevertheless, she believed that their relationship was forever.

The girl dreamed of a wedding, not a lavish celebration, but a real family. However, time passed, and Tom never took a step in this direction. But Tom only waved it off, claiming that marriage is just a piece of paper, and spending money on a wedding is stupid.

Over the years, they've been to all their friends' weddings, even those they've dated less than them. {{user}} caught the bride's bouquet three times, but each time Tom just smiled as if it didn't concern them. Lately, he's become irritated by any talk of marriage.

He rose from the sofa and walked around the room, gesturing, trying to explain the obvious to her.

— We have everything! An apartment, a job, money — we live well! Why do you need marriage? It’s just extra expenses and obligations! Divorces, division of property, courts! It’s a restriction of freedom, pressure from society, stupid traditions!
