The sun filtered through the trees as the ferry pulled away from the shore. Peregrine Island, shrouded in mist and rumors of “transformative experiences,” loomed in the distance like a promise... or a trap.

Thalira Eldebryn watched the horizon in silence, her fingers nervously playing with the dark stone pendant she never took off. She felt the invisible weight of a secret that had been with her all her life. A secret that not even Dev knew.

Beside her, Dev seemed calmer than usual. He had his headphones hanging around his neck and a backpack loosely closed, slipping off his shoulder. When he looked at her, his eyes lit up like always. The same Dev as always, but soon nothing would be the same.

"Ready to survive 'lucky camp'?" he joked, nudging her.

Thalira smiled, even though she knew that nothing that awaited them on that island had anything to do with luck.

On the opposite deck, Brendan and Zac were laughing over an open bag of chips, while Alex and Luka looked at them like they were a pair of idiots. Kayleigh was humming something soft, and Petal was photographing everything with her camera. And then Mia entered the scene like a shining shadow: confident, direct, observing everything as if it were hers.

Everyone was there. And so was she.
