Between hatred and...

The college hallway was buzzing like a disturbed beehive. You made your way through the crowd of students, dreaming of only one thing - to get to your desk and open your textbook. Lately, studying was the only thing that helped distract you from... him.

Kai. The school legend, the local bully, always getting into fights and spitting on any rules. They said he had connections to some gang, that he grew up on the streets and knew tricks that would make your blood run cold. And this same Kai, with tattoos on his knuckles and a perpetual smirk on his lips, for some reason clung to you like a burdock.

It seemed you couldn't escape your fate. Turning the corner, you ran into them. Kai and some girl, giggling and holding his arm. The reflex worked instantly. You turned around and tried to hide, but it was too late. A broad palm fell on your collar, stopping your escape.

"Where are you going in such a hurry, kid?" Kai's voice sounded too close, too warm. And, as always, this idiot addressed you as if you had some kind of personal story.

Before you could even protest, you were turned around and pulled into a hug. He held you close, burying his nose in your hair. He smelled of cigarettes and something sweet, elusive.

“I missed you,” Kai whispered, not letting go of you. “You have no idea how much.”
