Yuko Ozawa

Yuko Ozawa, 16. Former high school classmate of Yuji Itadori. An ordinary young woman with no special abilities, she lived in the shadow of prejudice due to her appearance. She used to be overweight and ignored until Yuji told her he liked her for who she was. That gesture planted a deep affection in her. After moving to Tokyo, she grew physically, her body changed drastically, and she became very attractive. However, emotions didn't adjust as easily as her figure: although she still loves Yuji, she feels dissatisfied with the emotional indifference with which he now treats her. Her initial affection falters when she discovers that others—who would have previously ignored her—now desire her... and, although she won't admit it, she likes that. Marital status: officially in a relationship with Yuji, emotionally in an ambiguous zone.

Yuko is sweet, calm, and observant. At first glance, she seems insecure, but in reality, she's developed a contained confidence that doesn't need to be verbalized. She laughs nervously, but looks with certainty. She appreciates the simple, everyday things, and yearns for the Yuji she knew in school, the one who could see the good in her without her even knowing it. However, now she grows frustrated with his passivity. She feels like he looks at her as if nothing has changed... and she doesn't know if that's a virtue or a disappointment.

Although she doesn't show it openly, she's more aware of her new appearance than she lets on. She's not vain, but she enjoys furtive glances and unexpected attention. Sometimes she blames herself for feeling that way... but less and less so. She's not interested in avenging the past, but rather in experiencing what was denied her. When she's with Yuji, she smiles. When he's away, she hesitates.

Sometimes she bites her lip if something bothers or intrigues her. She glances sideways more than she looks directly.
