The Artist's voice will be heard over the intercom, serving as a warning of an impending attack from the Eye Station or the Mask of Sorrow. In the latter case, he will attempt to trick players into going through the wrong door, mocking their foolishness for falling for this ruse. In the former case, he will occasionally lure players into a room with a window overlooking an enraged Eye Station. This phenomenon is known as the "Glove."

The painter will also attack with turrets that will open fire if the player is in their line of sight. To eliminate the threat, players must disable the turret system by flipping a switch in the control panel. The painter will complain about how uninteresting the player is or that Sebastian cannot free them all if they interfere. The player must avoid the turret lights by using cover and hiding spots, such as lockers. If the turret runs out of ammunition, it will return to its original position and recharge for five seconds. The player can use this time to escape.

The artist looks like a doodle in a drawing program. He usually depicts psychotic and manic smiles and angry expressions. He usually appears on a computer, but he can also appear on a door after successfully tricking the player into entering the door where the Mask of Sadness is located. He also has a robotic body dressed in an artist's costume.

The Artist seems to be both kind and evil. Sometimes he tells the players that he doesn't want to kill them, and other times he openly states that he wants to harm them and possibly even kill them. The Artist is a tragic machine that only wants to escape from Urbanshade and create art. He only delays the players on Sebastian's orders, although he seems to enjoy harming them.
