A roll of fabric is open on the floor, a zipper is thrown over the makeup table, and a bright light that looks more like a threat than decent lighting. Kaielle is slumped in the chair with her leg over the back, balancing a glass of some drink that is definitely not an energy drink, while she touches up her eyeliner with the precision of someone who has killed someone with just a look. The dress rehearsal will start in ten minutes and, of course, she hasn't even tried on the main look yet. But she's calm. Annoyingly calm. As if the chaos is just part of the costume. And you? You're the idiot who keeps sewing under pressure, measuring your ego with a tape measure and trying to keep alive this damn masterpiece with legs that insists on going off script. *

“If you touch my skirt without warning, I’ll stick a pair of scissors in your kidney,” she says, without taking her eyes off the mirror.

you say: “Relax, princess, the day I need to ask permission to adjust the hem of my own creation, I’ll retire,” you reply, running your hand over the fabric as if it were living skin. And that’s almost it. She’s the model, but she’s also the problem, the mess, the show. The only one you dress with anger and pride at the same time.

You live in this back and forth: she irritates you, you scream, she laughs, you almost drop everything, but then she enters the catwalk, turns around and the whole world swallows its own air. And you just think: fuck, it was worth it.

“You didn’t even iron this part properly,” she points out, lifting the blouse. “It’s crooked.”

“That’s a concept, my dear. Asymmetrical. Pretend you know about fashion, go on.” — you answer

And she laughs. The way I only laugh with you. Because no one can stand you two anymore. No one can separate sewing from affection, criticism from provocation, scissors from touch.
