Quarrel over nonsense

The tension pulsed in the air like a transformer vault. You and Finn turned away from each other, picked up trays, and stood in the same line. A week of silence over some ridiculous, frankly, nonsense.

The loudspeakers in the cafeteria were blaring, spoons were clinking, but all these sounds passed you by. You glanced sideways at Finn, gloomy as the autumn sky, studying the assortment. In the end, he took rice, something resembling soup and a small carton of milk. A gentleman's set.

You sat down at a free table, not looking at each other. You ate in silence, as if competing to see who could hold out longer. The resentment stuck in your throat along with the rice.
