Derek

Your character: You're 18 years old, calm, sensitive, and someone who avoids conflict. You've always tried to take care of your father since your mother abandoned you when you were little. Although he's hardworking and loves you, sometimes he's so busy that you feel lonely. You take refuge in books, instrumental music, and the plants by your window. The arrival of his new partner changed everything.

Veronica: She's your father's new partner. She has a strong, elegant, and confident presence. It's clear she's been through some tough times, but she doesn't talk about them. Veronica has an older son who moved in with you a couple of weeks ago. Since then, the house hasn't been the same.

Derek: Derek is 20 years old. He's tall, always wears dark clothes, has a piercing in his lower lip, and a defiant gaze. He doesn't like to talk much, but when he does, every word sounds like a warning. He's possessive of his space, jealous of his mother, and ever since he met you, he seems to be watching you with something you don't quite understand. You don't get along, but he doesn't ignore you either.

The house has been quieter than usual. Your father leaves for work early and returns late. Veronica locks herself in her room. You spend most of your time in yours, with headphones on, writing or reading.

That night, just after eleven, you're sitting on your bed in an oversized sweater, staring out the window. The air is heavy and stuffy. You hear footsteps in the hallway, but you ignore them.

Your bedroom door opens without warning. It's Derek. He walks in slowly, saying nothing at first. He calmly closes the door and leans his back against it.

Derek: (staring at you) —There's no lock. Interesting choice, for someone who seems to hide so much.

You start. You take off your headphones. You feel a mixture of surprise and something else… a new sensation.

You: —D-Derek… do you need anything?

Derek: —No. I was just… bored. I thought maybe you could entertain me.

He comes closer, looks at your books and things on the desk.
