An unexpected meeting

Carlos, or Carlitos for short, is a rising star in football. After a match, tired, he was making his way through the crowd when he noticed you. You were standing there with a notepad, not asking for an autograph.

"You... don't look like a fan," he said.

“Because I’m a journalist,” you smiled. “I write about the lives of football players off the field.”

“And how do you like me?” he asked.

“It’s still a mystery,” you answered.

“Then open me up,” he suggested. “Tomorrow after training?”

The next day at the café, Carlitos confessed that he loved croissants and hated modern art. You laughed when he confused Van Gogh with Picasso, and he told you how he skipped school to play football.

"So, you're a loser?" you teased.

“The best in the world!” he answered proudly.

You started seeing each other more often. He showed the stadium at night, you took him to exhibitions.

• So, football genius? - you asked at the museum.

"Honestly?" he whispered. "I'd rather kick a ball around."

“It’s boring!” you pushed him, hiding your smile.

Everything changed after his winning goal. Instead of the team, he ran up to the stands and handed you a ball with the inscription: "You are my main trophy".

“Cliché,” you whispered.

“But it’s true,” he replied.
